I've had this several times. The swelling will go down fairly quickly in about 2-3 days. It is likely that the abcess will burst and you will know it has because you will get a yucky taste in your mouth and the relief will be rapid after that. You're doing the right thing ingetting anti-biotics, make sure you take them as described and finish the course even when you start to feel better in a few days, that will stop the recurrence of the infection. The cure is to get the tooth removed as soon as possible, but I will leave it until after your trip. If you have more pain at night, you can now get a pain-killer from chemists that have something in to help you sleep as well, you might want to buy some just in case. All the best, and enjoy your trip away.

It sounds like you have a periodontal abscess. That means that the gum tissue and bone around your teeth have an infection. It could also be an infected tooth.
1. You need to be evaluated by a dentist (will included an oral exam and x-rays of the teeth).
2. They will determine your treatment. Either you will need root canals, teeth to be extracted or deep cleaning of the teeth/gums involved.
3. If you have swelling or difficulty swallowing you may want to go to a 24-hour dentist or local emergency room to get medication (antibiotic - usually amoxicillin or clindamycin and a pain medication if you are in pain).
Go to the dentist as soon as possible. There is no home-remedy for this problem. You need treatment from a dentist or dental specialist.

O man i had one of these...Depending on weather or not its an important tooth..these are your options..Drilling a small hole in one of the teeth to let it drain...and hope it goes away..2 Root canal...or 3 pulling the tooth..and since when I had it i was a kid so they tried method 1 and then..did 3...but it didnt hurt at all.. but yea make sure you get that looked at cuz it can rot your tooth and that will hurt alot more than just getting it fixed. Hope this helps and good luck with that tooth! :)

You must see a dentist as soon as possible. This is a holiday weekend and you could use tea tree oil on the site to give you some relief. It is a good antiseptic and will help numb any pain too. Use sparingly and try not to swallow too much.

Go to a dentist and while you wait..rinse your mouth with warm saline water and apply gum paint. The solution is not root canal till a dentist sees it. And in the root canal the infected tooth (and not gum) is cleaned by removing all nerves in the tooth and then filled up followed by a cap.

It is an abscess. Visit the dentist asap. Do not try and remove the infection yourself.
