While you will probably get alot of answers from people who owned this type or that type of dog, you will need more information than you can get here. There are certainly breeds that are calmer than others, but this also varies greatly with each individual dog. Researching breeds might be a good start. Also, be aware that there is no such thing as a "calm" puppy, unless something is wrong with it. A very viable option would be going to your local animal shelter and looking at some dogs they have who have the type of temperament you are looking for. There should be plenty of adult dogs who need a loving home for you to choose from. Good luck!

There is no such thing it is based upon the dogs socialization with other pets, people and training but remember that temperment in breeds do allow for less or more agression in the bloodline so choose a dog carefully by research on the breed. And for those who think its the pitbull or bully breeds well the truth is not even close based upon 15 year study CDC has compiled ample data and here they are German shepherds
Cocker spaniels
Rottweilers
Golden retrievers and Most people will say the Lab or retriver and they are both in the Top six and thats the reality.

I have a Japnese Chin and he is about as calm as a dog gets without being sick. He only barks when someone he doesn't know comes near the house.

they are big dogs, but the Bull Mastiff is one of the most laid back dogs you can get. They are big, cuddly, and very very lovable.
