So far I've gotten only A's, but I just fell off the cliff in Algebra. I'm terribly slow in math, so should I spend all my time working on these problems, losing sleep, letting the kids dump sugar on the floor, and not getting any laundry done? Is it really worth it?

Oh, yeah. I have only 2 weeks left of the class and I was getting an A before I went stupid. Ha Ha- No it just got beyond my comprehension.

Plus, it's just an Associates in medical assisting. I WAS planning to continue college afterwards, but now that I know how dumb I am in math, maybe I'll just make do with what I have.

It will be worth it when it's all said and done. Don't kick yourself too hard for getting a B though. If you need the grade to advance to something particular then maybe worry about it a little more. But studying under stress isn't going to help either. Take a break. Play with your kids. Throw in some laundry.

Then you can come back to it fresh.

In response to your ps.... just because you have difficulty with a subject (especially one like algebra) You Are Not Dumb. You are very intelligent. First, you have the desire to improve yourself, whether for your kids, for more income, or just to better yourself or all 3... That's not dumb. Second, you were smart enough to reach out and seek advice when you were frustrated.
My advice to you is to find someone in your class who is good at this subject and have a study session or two with them. Also, many tutors advertise on school bulletin boards for very reasonable rates, they know their market is struggling college students. Whatever you do don't give up your dreams.

Good Luck!

ummm I'm not old enough for college yet, but trust me U need a life too. My twin used to get straight A's in EVERYTHING, and she did nothing else. Now I am in Algebra which is a year ahead of where I'm supposed to be. I got my first C in my whole life last quarter, and now I have to pass the CBE which idk if I can do. My teacher really isn't that great either, and everyone in his class agrees that he explains things poorly. Ur not the only one that is stupid in Math. Just be proud that u have gotton staight A's and accept the good grades. If u don't get one more A, it won't hurt you. If u decide to go for the A in Algebra thats good too though.

I have to agree with Robert that your family comes first. I am glad that my wife finished college long before we had a family. She gave her all to her family when she was home and she made sure that her work hours got her home before school let out. All of the teachers thought she was a stay-at-home-mom because of it. I don't know how she managed to keep up the house, keep me in line, and be such a wonderful mother while working, too, but I sure am glad she didn't have to go to school during that time. Other parents wonder why we have such good children, and I believe it is because their mother was always there (I was there as much as my job allowed, but she was the best influence). Having a big salary was not my wife's goal; having enough to make ends meet while being a good wife and mother was her goal. It sure has made for a happy family for over 30 years. Put God and your family first; you won't regret it!

Kaari, do the best you can. I know how incredibly tough it is, juggling it all. When your body says quit at night, do just that...Quit. You will learn more with a refreshed sleep. Look at it this way, the laundry will always be there...the kids will always be making a mess, regardless of whether or not you are in school or not. Do what you can, as long as you know you've done your best, you can't ask for more. In the long run, yes, you'll see it is truly worth it.

It depends. If you're trying to get into a program where you have to have a great GPA to make it, then it's worth it. Otherwise, I would say it's not. I kept a high GPA, got my RN license, and never once have I been asked what my GPA was in nursing school. They just want a licensed warm, breathing body to hire.

ABSOLUTELY!!! With time you'll overcome your stress and every day your studies will appear to you easier and easier and when finally, you graduate, the sense of satisfaction that you'll feel will be so strong that it will erase from your memory all the hardship that you went through. Good luck and congratulations on the wonderful marks that you are getting.

first and foremost go to every class. Never go out drinking before a test. read your text and the little captions next to photos. As far as time management goes... Allocate more time for the classes you understand least, and sit in the front row. Also use the best resource possible, your professor. thats why they are there. If you don't get it right away, ask them to explain it in another way.

Yes it's worth it. A lot of employeers check both your degree and GPA through a third party background service they hire.

Hang in there!!!!

Even the doctor that graduated last in his class is still called a doctor.
