I kinda like the idea. It's a sweet gesture. Hopefully she'll get a star that is easy to point out and find.

One of my favorite quotes is "Kiss me and you'll see stars. Love me and I will give them to you."

For starters, notice that the opinions seem to fall entirely upon one side of the fence or the other based on the respondent's gender: males say dumb, females say cute, sweet, etc. That alone should answer your question.

I 'bought' a star for a girlfriend once and instead of having the star company - International Star Registry, I believe - frame it, I took the certificate to a frame shop and had it double matted and then framed with the colors of my own choosing. My girlfriend told me it was the most beautiful gift she had ever received (she was in her 30's, so she'd had a few in her time). She hung it up in her living room and bragged about it to everyone.

So, my opinion? If your girlfriend is even the least bit romantic, she'll love the gift. Go for it. And besides, does it really matter whether or not it's 'official'? Seriously, who cares?

It really really depends on the girl! Some would cherish it and some would be disappointed if there is some material thing they were hoping for. My best suggestion is to do it, but get a small piece of jewelry resembling a star with a nice inscription to remind her of the star gift.

Oh I think this is really cool and very sweet of you! I think any girl would love this and cherish it. I remember reading a few years ago that Julia Roberts hubby did this for her, too. Good luck with that. I think you are on the right track. It is nice to know that here are still hopeless romantics out there.

I think it's a wonderful Idea. A friend of mine got one for her Birthday. However, you are looking more into $200-$300.
By the way, you also get a sterling silver star that's engraved with her name, time and year. I believe she also got a map where the star was marked.

I think it's sweet! It's the thought that counts and she'll know that somewhere in the sky you named a star after her. Wow I wish my boyfriend would do something like that, I would look in the sky all the time knowing one has my name. I think she would cherish it.

I got one for my bf and he loved it. We went camping to try and see it (we knew you couldn't really) but it was very romantic. I wonder if you can get them un-named though, I would like to change his to "Stupid ignorant wanker" but I think his name will be stuck on it forever ;-)

My friend knows someone that lost a child, they got the parents a star named after the child and that is really special to them and helps the other kids deal with the loss cause they see him every night!

+ it's the thought that counts and chicks love that kinda crap - i do!

If she is the kinda of girl who would liek that then that would be a good gift. Or should might like something else. Try to find something she likes. That may be far featched but that sounds cool. Good luck and tell me what happens.

Who owns the stars? That makes as much sense as buying the Brooklyn Bridge, or, charging people for "bottled air".

it depends on your girlfriends personality. some people really like it, but since it's not official you're basically wasting money. why not spend a little more $ & get her something she can keep. if she likes stars spend $100 or so & get her a telescope. or jewelry. ;o)
