Let me answer your Question with a joke piece I posted several days ago, where the answer lies in the punchline....

In a Prison facility where inmates uses break time to exchange jokes..there was this old-timer who never fails to solicit laughter every time he tells a joke...no matter if it's a recycled one told over and over again...

The Old-timer was so good in joke-telling that, he just need to mention the Joke number like, Joke# 12...a burst of laughter; then...Joke # 15, another round of laughter,,,and so on.

One day, a new inmate came in..and wondered why other inmates were laughing at the old-timer who mentions only a number. Later, when he learned of the jokes behind the numbers, he too has a laugh.

The new inmate had other things in mind though. He wanted to be as popular with the Old-timer. One day on a gathering, the new inmate opens: Joke# 6...no laughter; then followed with...joke #54.. again no laughter.

Flabbergasted, one night he asked the old-timer how come he can he tell a numbered joke and gets a laugh...while he can't. They're just telling the same jokes anyway...

The old-timer replied....

Son, it's how you Deliver the Joke....

When a joke kindles the sleeping sense of humour in you and gives you a laugh silently or other wise without hurting your sensitivities then the joke is funny.

The Delivery is the body of the Joke.

Being offensive, (and being hurtful to others is an offfence, also), doesn't have to be included to garner laughs.

Happy New Year!

jokes can be really funny. it is the out-of-this-world ideas that makes it funny. it also gives us reason to think beyond normal things right?

the joke has to have a good story and punchline for me
i hate derogatory jokes: sexual , racial, etc . Some of the jokes told on Comicview on BET are a little to raunchy and disgusting etc....

Of course not!

There are plenty of hilarious comedians that don't use crude/offensive humor.
