The Beatles were first and better. The Beatles were known for their music, the Monkees their antics on the TV show. When the Monkees first started only Peter Tork could play an instrument, but they all did learn. The Beatles were pretty funny in their movies too, but the Monkees made a career out of their TV show. It was all humor with them except their movie Head which was just plain weird, and the music was not like their usual stuff either.

The Monkees were the Back Street Boys of their day - a manufactured boy band and a rip off of the Beatles. The Beatles wrote their own music and have a lasting legacy, but the Monkees were a lot of fun!

Honestly, I am a huge fan of both bands. The early stuff from both bands, Beatles. Later stuff, I'd go with the Monkees. But overall, I'd have to say Beatles are a better band.

The beatles wrote pretty much all their own music.
The monkees were part of the cast of a TV show. They actually never performed together until the show producers put them together. They did eventually had their songs released on an album. Their music was typical late 60s.

LOL, you posted this under the pets catagory! OK, animal wise I would take a monkey over a beetle anyday...Bugs are creepy! Music wise...The Monkees were cute and had good music..but the cant compare to the music writing team of McCartney and Lennon and their music is classic

THE BEATLES....they are legendary....and changed the course of music........the MONKEES were good in their time...but they fizzled......and they came after the Beatles and simply followed in their footsteps.
