Or the Protestant teaching: everything goes as long as you follow Jesus!"

Who 'loves the world' more? Who eats more, who lives more modestly?

Which one is closer to Jesus' teachings, and which one is closer to JOHN's?

(john is NOT the 'savior')

On this issue, I believe the Catholics have a more sound teaching. But that's just me.

I'm a Catholic, so I'll probably be bias ;)

Where do you get the idea that Catholics believe the world is evil and suffering is necessarily a virtue? We believe as the bible teaches, that we live in a fallen world (imperfect) and that in this world is both good and evil. We also do not equate suffering with punishment and understand that suffering can hold value, in that it allows the sufferer to unite themselves with Christ on the cross.
Does not mean in every case it's a virtue, but a person can MAKE it a virtue.

Which one is closer to Jesus teachings? Protestants have so many splits that you'd be hard pressed to find any that agree or follow the same rule. If they don't like it, they go off and form another church. I can't keep up with how many there are.

The problems in the Catholic church still do not cause a split off of other churches. That in itself is a sign, as the Catholic church with all the inner corruption by liberals should have destroyed it years ago. The holy spirit is what keeps it going and those faithful to the real teachings.

The teachings of the Catholic church are in the Catholic Cathechism. Every teaching and custom is explained fully using bibilical back up the entire way - verse and quote.

I'd advise you to get a copy and read, or you will be sucked into taking pot shots on a church you may not know enough about. The Catechism explains everything. The Catholic chruch also goes right back to the time of Saint Peter. He was the first Pope. It's the oldest church.

It's up to you what you decide. I became a catholic after becoming properly informed about the teachings and reading for myself, instead of listening to the anti catholic agenda. Do you need to tell me that John is not the savior? Why on earth would any church base their teachings on anybody but Christ? Once you follow what He states, the rest follows. Traditions were passed down also from that time until now and are in line with the gospels. Those who criticise do so often from an uninformed position.

I'm very glad that I did not listen to a friend of mine who put Catholics down constantly. I was not one back then and if I had listened, I may never have found out for myself what they really teach and how astounded I was at reading about this for myself and understanding all the criticisms were completely unfounded.

so if you are truly interested in becoming informed on Catholicism, even if it's to pull it down, definitely get yourself a copy and read before you do. Many have done this and became instad converted. Why? because each and every custom/teaching is completely inline with the gospels. You will also find that many things we are accused of are mistaken, but again, it's up to you to read for yourself.

Catholics core teaching is of forgivness for sins.. as long as those sins are acknowledge and not repeated..

Secondly the church teaches that all humans must live by a set of rules.. called the 10 commandments.. which have been doctrinated for all our benefits in life..

I for one see no problem from a logical point with the christian faith.. we do not have quirky rules like stoning people to death.. and we dont starve ourselves once per week.. or have rituals where we cant press buttons on a weekend.. which again is really silly and absurd.. how can pressing a button prove one's goodness.. its really a silly thing.. alas.. it is part of a popular religion and cities are having to install special buttonless traffic lights for these minority groups.. its all very silly to me.. especially when people are starving..

Catholic religion is sensible.. and if practiced properly is very funtional..

The recent attacks are being done by a minority with its own clear agenda of weakening chrsitianity trying to install homosexuality as a norm.. and all other forms of hijack.. but catholics the world over live by the two key principles mentioned at top.. and will never change those views because they really are very basic but simple principles that can easily be applied..

The only problem with the christian faith it seems is it does not produce enough ignorant slave workers.. who can easily be manipulated.. by the greedy world land and corporate multi-national owners.. and this is causing the major media players big problems so there is a huge bash catholics campain going on at present..

The evil is perpetrated by others.. for example.. homosexuality was heavily pushed by the Jewish faith.. in fact most of the early advocates for open homosexuality were all Jews.. NOW its become a Christian issue.. well.. Chrsitians never accepted it.. and never plan to either.. so why are we copping the bad press for paedophiles and not the Jews?? could it be that the jews own all the TV stations telling us these lies??

Alas.. if you just ignore all the other evil religions.. or evil aspects.. and dont stone your wife to death if she cheats on you.. and dont become a homo just because the ever powerful jews say its ok to do so.. you will find that life will be very rewarding for you too.

Stick to the basic principles.. this is what the Catholics teach.. whenever in doubt.. go back to your basic principles.. every answer to every question you could ever possibly need an answer for in life will have an answer contained therein for you..

I'm not sure what Catholics teach, or protestants for that matter. The world as it is now, is evil. Evil causes suffering. Those who suffer look deeper for peace. Many come to salvation through Jesus Christ in this way.

I've been Catholic all my life, and I've never been taught that the world is evil or that suffering is a virtue.

And I doubt that most Protestants really believe that "anything goes as long as you follow Jesus."

Obviously, if one follows Jesus, they're not adopting an "anything goes" philosophy of life. Only people who don't follow Jesus think that "anything goes."

I have met some Catholics who genuinely love the Lord Jesus and walk in faith and love. I have met many Protestants - though they would simply call themselves Christians, that genuinely love the Lord Jesus and live in faith and obedience. Furthermore, i have seen the both of them get along beautifully.
As to the subject of suffering, I believe there are things Christians should suffer for and there are things God doesn't want them to suffer for. Suffering is not intrinsically virtuous, otherwise the holiest people in the universe would be found in hell.

The Catholic Church does recognize the great spiritual value of suffering. But it does not teach that the world is evil. The world is God's creation and everything God created is fundamentally good.
