In Leviticus 11 The Lord describes every unclean animal.

in 11:9 it says that of the water creatures, you are only allowed to eat it if it has fins or scales. ALL OTHER WATER CREATURES ARE FORBIDDEN.

Shrimp are considered unclean animals mainly because they eat their own waste and are bottom-feeders. so no Shark or lobster either.

BUT

These laws were only between God and "his people" the Israelites and Moses. This was not law to Gentiles.

It is believed that when Jesus came, all previous laws were abolished in placement of the new covenant.

So most do not believe that these clean/unclean animal laws apply.

YES.
First of all they are scavengers. If you go back in the Old Testament; God distinguished what foods we should eat and which one's we shouldn't. Now if you decide too; that's your choice, but some groups don't because it's an abomination to eat anything unclean. Isn't our body the temple of God as stated in 1Cor.3:18-19? We supposed to take care of our body and be in good health (3John 1:2).
Shrimp are made to eat the garbage under the sea floor; they carry diseases too. The pig is a scavenger too; it eats the slop on the earth and if you looked under a microscope of cooked ham; you will find worms in it. You really want tricinosis and diseases and things in your body?

** TEXTS THAT INVOLVE THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN MEATS:
GEN.18:7-8; LEV.11; 20:25; DEUT.14; ISAIAH 66:17; EZEK.22:26; DAN.1:8; MATT.3:4; LUKE 24:41-43; ACTS 10:10-14; 1COR.3:16-17; 9:27; 2COR.6:17; AND REV.21:8.
----TO ME; IF THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN MEATS WEREN'T VALID FOR TODAY; THEN WHY OH WHY WOULD THE LORD PLEAD WITH FLESH NOT TO EAT UNCLEAN MEAT--(ISAIAH 66:15-17). ALSO NOTICE DEUT.14:4 "SHALT NOT EAT ANY ABOMINABLE THING" AND REV.21:8 "...THE ABOMINABLE SHALL HAVE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE WHICH BURNETH WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH."

From two biblical passages (Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14:3-21) the following rules are extracted regarding which animals, birds, and fishes are kosher and which terefah [non-kosher]. Nowhere in the whole of the Bible is there any reference to a particular fish, only to fish in general. In the two passages dealing with the dietary laws it is stated that only fish that have fins and scales are kosher. The Talmud lays down the rule that a fish that has scales also has fins, so that what actually determines which fishes are kosher is the existence of scales. A problem arises as to how "scales" are defined. [The medieval thinker] Nahmanides understands that only scales that are detachable from the skin of the fish qualify as scales. Where they cannot be detached they are not considered to be scales at all but part of the fish itself.

Orthodox Jews don't eat shrimp or any other shellfish. The other things Orthodox Jews don't eat are meat and milk together, scavangers, birds of prey, land mammal thats don't have hooves or chew their cud (like pork), or non-supervised wine. We know a food is ok when it is marked with a special signal called a hesher (e.g. K, an U in a circle, etc..)

Yes it is forbidden in Leviticus11:10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you.

Edit: Fortunately Jesus the Christ came to like the delicious shrimp and so I am told cold pork sandwiches and said we didn't have to obey God's silly old laws any more.

Yes.
Leviticus 11:9-10 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

Shrimp are scavengers and are considered uncleaned food and we are not to eat them, or lobster, clams, shell fish of any kind.

The Hebrew diet of the Old Testament did not allow shellfish - shrimp, lobster, mussels, clams, etc. or pork. Animals that were bottom feeders (cleaning up the crap from the sea bottom), or wallowed in their own mess, were not eaten.

According to the Bible that was one of the numerous dietary rules of the Mosaic Law, under the Old Covenant. Christians live under the New Covenant, under which nothing that goes into a person makes that person unclean.

According to Leviticus, it's also a sin to wear clothing of mixed materials.

To those who say that the old testament no longer applies, does this also apply to the 10 commandments?

No. It used to be wrong though, If I'm thinking correctly, that food like shrimp was mentioned as unclean food in Leviticus.

That book was written before christ came, and now things are different. It's like another phase in God's big plan.

I certainly hop not cause the shrimp is some good eating. My bible tells me that God cleanse all food and it is good to eat and I m still studying to this effect.
