Call your local vet and ask. The lump should go away on it's
own in a few hours. Just watch your kitty and see if she is
having trouble walking or standing up. Check her pupils and see if they retract in full light. If they don't, there could be a problem.
If she eats and drinks and cleans herself and acts like she does normally then I would say she is okay. After the book bonked
her on the head was she unconscious for awhile, a few minutes or at all? Did she flop around or have trouble standing?
I think she will be okay.

No, the ice won't do anything but piss her off hehe. I would just keep an eye on her for a few days (assuming there is no puncture wound in which case I would say yes, take her). But some people will run them to the vet if their poop changes color lol. They may say better safe than sorry but if you are like me, I can't afford to take my cat if there is really nothing wrong with her other than a bump. Just use your common sense....if she does not seem to be in pain (panting alot, etc.), her vision is fine (i.e. not running into things) and her behavior, eating and bathroom habits are normal I think it is safe to assume she just got a boo-boo and the swelling should go down in a few days. If it does not, then I would schedule her a visit. Best of luck to you and clumsy little kitty.

I would take her to the vet just to make sure that there is no hairline fracture or wot not. I mean, there's a LUMP now. That says that the cat received a pretty hard blow from the book.

I think you should call your veterinarian first before you put ice on your cat. Ask for their opinion on wether you should bring it in or not. They have pain meds for cats if you think that it is really bothering it. They are NSAIDS so they take the swelling out also. Keep a close eye on it. If it starts acting wierd (stumbling, excessive salivation, changes in drinking and eating habits) you should take it to the vet ASAP.

Most of the time, if the swelling is on the outside, instead of inside, just watch the animal for unusual behavior (stumbling, vomiting,etc.). If any unusual behavior begins take it to the vet that day. Although if it is a kitten, I think I would take it to the vet just to be sure.

unless she's acting funny, then it probably is just some swelling, like you'd get if you smacked your head. ice is fine, but wrap it in a towel and don't keep it on for too long. keep it on and then off for a few minutes, and then on again, like you would if you had an injury.
your cat should be fine. take her to the vet if she's acting funny.

It's just swelling. If you have ever bumped your head, then you have seen it swell. And you don't need to go to the doctor for that. Ice might be a good idea. But only one or two cubes and not to cold. hope the lump goes away!

It's a good question but take the cat to the vet to be sure.

I would say go to the vet. When you know nothing about an animals anatomy it is always better to be safe. I mean, what if the cat had a concussion.
