Will the digital cable box feed the HD signal through to my TV to be viewed in HD. Do I need to buy a HD cable box, even though I have the tuner in the TV?

To get HD content out of your cable WITHOUT the box your HD tuner will need to be/have QAM on it. To get digital signals (sometimes HD, sometimes not but what can you expect when watching re-runs of I Love Lucy) over the air, terrestrially your HD tuner will need to be/have ATSC (not to be confused with regular TVs NTSC, which will never be HD) tuner. To see if putting an antenna up would even be worth the hassle follow the first link.

As for the cable guys having better signals for your local stations its all hogwash. They have a regular antenna up in the air just like the rest of us for the local channels, albeit they have a dedicated antenna for each channel tuned to that channel and its usually 80 feet in the air or so. But the signals the same feed that you would get putting a good antenna up.

Note: the QAM tuner only lets you see unscrambled digital signals. If you want premium content in HD you will have to pay.

Most cable companies do not carry the digital transmissions on their analog cable services, even though there is no reason they can't. (This would be the kind of cable that doesn't need a cable box at all and just plugs into your set's antenna input.) Either put up an antenna or subscribe to digital cable. If you are close enough to the transmitter you could possibly get by with an indoor antenna (Zenith Silver Sensor).

Michael N is precisely incorrect. you may definitely get HD over the air with an indoor antenna, yet given which you're in a stable area. this capacity being the two close sufficient to the transmitter and not in a multipath gulch the place pondered indicators are a project. additionally, there is not any such element as an HD antenna, regardless of any claims and hype you may hear. All antennas are the same in this regard.

Yes. You need an HD cable box. Comcast installed mine for just $5 added to the monthly bill.
