I want to adopt a chihuahua from a pet rescue but i heard that chichuahuas latch on to ONE person only. my current dog does that and that person isn't me and it upsets me a little because he won't even let me pet him. How can i improve my chances of being this chihuahuas favorite person?

First off, make sure that you're the one to feed it, groom it, bathe it, train it, just generally care for it. This will increase the chances that the dog will bond with you. If your new Chihuahua is not a puppy, this bonding may take a while. It may have learned to distrust all people, and you will have to gradually get it to change its mind by consistent good treatment. Give it lots of attention and love, making sure that it knows that you are boss. This will give it a sense of security.

Do not keep other people from interacting with it. This is called socialization and it is necessary if you want a dog that can be taken out in public.

Chihuahuas are generally one person or one household dogs. Generally. Our Chi, however, was socialized from a very young age and is just as good with strangers as any other dog I've known. He likes kids, and tolerates toddlers, even when they pat him instead of petting him. He loves to go away, relishes trips to the pet store and likes to hang out in front of the other stores with one of us while the other shops, because people stop to pet him and tell him how cute he is.

it is not lots what you do it particularly is who spends the main time with the puppy. we've 3 canines and that they are all mama's boys. They nevertheless decide on interest from my husband and easily one follows him. All 3 persist with me because of the fact i'm abode all day with them. Pay extra interest to the dogs you have and once you get the recent one it particularly is the same area of paying interest to the two canines and that they are going to be butting in for the attention that's being given to the different. they're going to have territorial themes as ours do each so often even regardless of the indisputable fact that it is not something to tension approximately till it gets real aggressive. in case you have become a domestic dog then the dogs you have now would be jealous and decide on self-discipline each so often.

Make sure you are the primary caregiver. When you go to the Pet Rescue....Make sure you go there alone. Make it a special day. Go for a walk...spend some quality time together before you go home to the rest of the family........However.....you are going to want to share this little love that you just saved.....we all know there is plenty of love to go around. i think you would get the other dog in the house to love you with a little work. There are many breeds that are one or two person...mainly the smaller breeds and mainly because they feel safe and attached with those individuals. Good Luck!

I've had my Chihuahua since he was 3 months old. I fell in love with him the second I saw him. He loves to be held..and if I'm in bed...he's right there...I HAVE to rub his little chest or belly until I fall asleep...if I don't...he constantly nudges my hand...after all...it's ALL about HIM...he's a spoiled brat! Most Chihuahuas want to be held..so just hold him whenever you can..mine loves to have his little belly rubbed..and his legs...neck and hips massaged. He loves people...and will let anyone hold him...but after a few minutes he wants down and always runs to me and jumps on my lap.Just show him/her...LOTS of love and affection! It really works! Good Luck !! I'm sure it will work out for you! :)

My friend has a chihuahua and she loves her owner though she likes when I come over because I'm there all the time, but she hates little kids and other dogs. My friend just spent a lot of time with her dog and they bonded really well.

You have to be the primary caregiver. But you don' t want her to be aggresive to other people and children so make sure you introduce her to people daily. Let them pet her, hold her. Let children sit in the floor with her in their lap and supervise them. I have two Chis. One is 14 and the other 1. They are both lap dogs, pet therapy dogs at nursing homes and visit schools. They are both rescues. They love anyone and everyone.......but I am the one who feeds them......I am MOM!

Be the only person that feeds, cares for, and shows attention to the dog. It can help, but sometimes they will just prefer someone else.
