take fresh very cold heavy cream and either put it in a jar and shake vigorously for a while until it solidifies or put it in a mixer with a whipping attachment until it solidifies. when u get a solid mass there will also be some liquid left over, this is the buttermilk. you will have to separate the solid butter from the liquid. then just wrap it in parchment paper/plastic wrap refrigerate and enjoy.

Get heavy cream chill well, place in a chilled blender,(fill only half full for your first try) blend on med-high speed until butter clumps form. The butter will not be bright yellow they add coloring to the store bought butter the buttermilk is the liquid left take the soft clumps out of the milk and place in a wooden bowl ( must be wood and have no smell or the butter will absorb the smell) take the back side of a spoon and gently press out any excess buttermilk from the butter ,you can salt to taste if you want . At any point if the butter gets to soft re-chill it by placing container and all in freezer briefly until it hardens up again. We had to make butter growing up and I don't even like whole milk and real butter so all that churning annoyed me so one day when my mom was gone I thought I would try the blender and it worked so well that we did it that way from then on, I was very happy. Good luck be patient it will work fine.

You can put heavy cream in a glass jar, seal the lid and sake it like crazy until the butterfat clumps up. This could take a very long time... pour off the remaining liquid and what's left is butter.

You probably want to add salt.

Why do you want to do this? Its a lot more work than just buying butter, and won't save you any money.

( We did this as a science experiment when I was in Kindergarten... ) about the same time the dinosaurs died.

Here is what a friend of mine does with her 5th grade students:
Put heavy cream into a plastic bottle and put a marble in with the cream. This helps it turn into butter MUCH more quickly than without the marble.

Along with the heavy cream in a jar, put a small marble in the jar for agitation. This is a third grade project. Works great.
