I am not a Christian, but my mother is. Lately she's taken up an interest in other supernatural things like psychic readings and crystal healing.
What is the Christian stance on these things? Do Christians usually think that this is fake? Or that it is true, but evil? Is it 'okay' by Christian standards for a Christian to take part in these things?
I don't believe in any of it, but it somehow doesn't seem right that she believes in all of it. Is any of this a contradiction according to the Christian faith?

I think that psychic readings are a load of cr@p anyway, and are a waste of time and money. I don't believe in anything like that. I'm just wondering what the Christian perspective of this is. Does the Church take a particular stance about these kinds of things?

The Bible takes a strong stance on necromancy and psychic/occult readings. Why ?
The appearance of pyschic skills are a screen for Satan and his angels to confuse and seduce a person who is more perceptive of them. In this way the psychic person who is more perceptive is actually more likely to be enticed into believing they actually have them when the illusion of having is provided by the devil. The end result is to destroy, dehumanize, mentally degrade or drive the person insane to the point of self destruction. Christians should never play games with the preternatural. Those who play them are already have a fair share in the asylums. Many psychics will actually sense that they are handing over their will to a higher power, and then it is too difficult to get out of the snare once they have surrendered their wills. Even Uri Geller the Soviet spoon-bender and telekinetic "expert" admits this(the capitulation of will).
There is meticulous writing on the topic - one of the books that show the danger is "The Possession and Exorcism of Five Contemporary Americans" by Malachi Martin. The fifth story is of a Harvard professor (Carl) who believed in reincarnation and used his psychic ability to "regress back in time". The exorcist forces the possessor(s) to admit how they do it with the psychic victim.

Yes, it is a contradiction to the christian faith. Biblically she should not consult mediums, psychics (It is from the dark side - not God) see 1 Chronicles 10:13-14. "Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David, son of Jesse. See also Leviticus 19:31 "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God"
Also Leviticus 20: 27 "A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them"

Some Christians think that that stuff isn't true, and others think it is very dangerous to play around with it. I personally think it's dangerous because it opens doors to the demonic realm. Before I was a christian I was involved in various practices of the occult and believe that they are real.

The bible does not call it fake, but tells us to flee any sorcery which includes those things you mentioned.
I believe some people do have supernatural gifts, but if they're not being used to glorify God, then we need to stay away from them.
Satan is an imitator of God. He can mess you up with these things....bad! Tell your Mom to go talk to someone in her church that she trusts. She needs to rely only on God and His direction and healing.

According to Scripture, turning to the dead for advice on the living is forbidden.
G-d allows for assistance from the spirit realm in the form of prophetic, which is from G-d Himself, but He frowns on psychic or other forms of assistance, as they do not come from Him. By exposing yourself to these other things, you are opening a doorway for them to enter your life.
Curiosity is not always good, & some things are best left alone.

i hate to sound retarded, but that kind of stuff is "evil". that is a form of witchcraft, which the Bible says to stay away from. any time we do something beyond ourselves WITHOUT the help of God, then we're getting the help from satan and all his croonies. but ya that stuff isnt good to get into.
