rice-like worms are tapeworms. Most over the counter dewormers DO NOT take care of them. You will need to contact your vet for a dewormer for tapeworms. Then you will probably need to get your cat on a flea preventative. Animals get tapeworms from fleas

Removing teeth isn't necessary unless there is decay. Removing an extra tooth will not cure gingivitis, nor is the cause of gingivitis. I recommend getting a second opinion from another vet. Some of them have really started pushing the idea of doing "professional" cleanings twice a year and are making a bigger deal about the dental stuff than they used to. Personally, I don't recommend having any "professional" cleanings unless it's determined that the cat has a dental problem the necessitates it. A cleaning in the vet's office requires anesthesia. Just as with people, the risks associated with anesthesia increase when it's used too frequently, and I don't like the idea of putting them under twice a year. If a second vet recommends a cleaning to help with the gingivitis, I would have it done the one time an follow up by regular cleaning at home. This should keep the condition from recurring unless there's a chronic condition... and the vet should be able to tell you if it is.

Roundworms are long and white....like spaghetti is how they look when they come out. Your cat has tapeworms. What you are seeing in the feces and probably on the fur on cat's behind is actually segments (sometimes still moving around) of the actual worm that breaks off. Cats get tapeworms from fleas because fleas ingest tapeworm eggs (and your cat, when cleaning himself, ingests fleas). Although you can buy over-the-counter products for tapeworms, they are not very effective. You need to take him to the vet. Call the vet, describe the worms you are seeing and ask if they can sell you a medication without having to bring the cat. If not, ask them upfront what it will cost you for an exam and the meds. You gotta get rid of the fleas for he might get reinfested with the worms again. Best of luck to you and Mr. Kitty.

What you are describing are tapeworms. Cats get them from ingesting fleas. You can treat this without going to the vet. There is a bottle of tapeworm tablets that you can buy from Petsmart or Petco. It is made by Tradewinds and the lbel is "Tape Worm Tabs - Praziquantel for Cats and Kittens." It is small white bottle and has three tablets in it. It goes with directions for use. Follow directions exactly - you need to weigh your cat. Depending on his weight, you will either have to give him1/2 or 1 or even 1 1/2 tablet. I hope you know how to administer tab meds to your cat orally unless you are sure the cat will eat all the food if you crushed the tabs and mixed it with the food.

I used this product a few months ago on my cats and they worked.

Oh, if your cat has tapeworm, you need to treat the cat and the home for fleas too. Otherwise, if the cat has fleas, chances are, he'll ingest another flea with tapewom larvae and then you're back to Step 1.

Over the counter medicines for cats can be DANGEROUS, especially seeing you do not know what worms you are treating for. Please go to a vet. If you don't want to take it because you cannot afford it or something like that, why do you have a cat? They sound like tapeworms and really there is no OTC meds that work for that anyways. Please go to a vet.

you shouldn't over dose there are a few months between worming, anyway you can just buy over the counter at a vet for worm tablets ( in Australia anyway) you could ask the girl what you can do.
the super markets sell them also but as i said don't over dose or it may hurt the cat or even kill

They are actually called tape worms. You can order it off of the internet and the medicen is call Droncit or Praziquantel. It is a de-wormer. It is called by fleas or rodents. Be sure that they are not eating rodents and that you treat their fleas if they have any.

You can get some stuff at Walmart or a Pet Store. But the Vet does have the best stuff.

It sounds like your cat may have tapeworms (they tend to look like flat rice). There are no over the counter meds, you will have to go to the vet and get meds (probably droncit or something similar).

Please take your cat to the vet! Your cat depends on you and unexpected vet visits are part of pet ownership.
Also, don't feed your cat cheap food, I heard it can cause worms.
