Generally, what I've done in the past is load Windows, then make a disc image of the install. When ever I want to reload it, I use the image. The images only takes about 10 minutes to load.

initially, you're able to desire to learn that your laptop gadget meets the minimum specs to run homestead windows XP. (take a seem at here internet site for Microsoft's blurb. i might propose that Microsoft ought to replace this internet site as those minimum standards might run XP, yet with constrained purposes ... and not very quickly in any respect.) you have become the errors because of the fact the two the documents have not been properly put in, or they have become corrupt for some reason. this could be via broken clusters on the confusing tension. What you're able to wish to attempt ... assuming that there is no longer something on the confusing tension which you're able to desire to back up first, is booting up with the homestead windows XP disk interior the CD/DVD ROM tension and selecting the 'R' determination. enable it to bypass interior the direction of the motions, until you notice a DOS instantaneous. kind 'chkdsk /r' (with out the inverted commas) and permit it to do it is bit. optimistically, this might locate broken clusters and attempt to repair them. you will then might desire to reboot with the CD nevertheless interior the stress and choose for a clean installation. With the 2d laptop, you will might desire to learn that it meets the standards back. enable me inform you, in spite of the undeniable fact that, which you would be able to in basic terms set up homestead windows XP on between the machines at a time to stay interior the regulation ... except, of direction, you have a quantity license key (VLK). perfect of success. despite you do, do no longer throw your desktops away. in case you could no longer hire them, there is certain to be somebody who can.

if you're trying to replace your existing hard drive, you can load up an imaging program (like norton ghost) onto your existing hard drive, slave on a second hard drive and image the original one to the second one. that way everything, os, programs, settings, preferences, etc. get copied over.
if you're looking to load up xp on a machine that doesn't already have it on there, then you could create an xp installation disk that has already slipstreamed all the service packs and updates. you can also set it up to install unattended, m$ has some info on that. but that won't install other programs, settings, preferences, etc.
