I happen to be infatuated with it! It's just too cute! Why did they stop making it? I think it's the perfect ride for a teenage girl.

If I were to buy a used one, what year is the best. What sort of problems come with it? (Btw, I HATE the beetle convertibles, if that's really the reason they stopped the cabrio, I will be severely depressed!)

How do I convince my parents that a VW Cabrio is a good deal. As opposed to an old Toyota or Honda for the same price (around $7,000)?

maybe it's not the safest ride... SUVs weren't the safest rides when they first came out either... they kept rolling over... check with the manufacturer.. they should know

vw stopped making the cabrio because the car was based on the older car platform that had not been used for any other car since 1999. they replaced the cabrio with the beetle convertible as a money saving idea so that all of the chassis for the small cars would be the same (golf, jetta, beetle). also the cabrio was not half as good as the beetle in the terms of safety.

they stopped making cabrio convertibles cuz they have the bug convertibles now. and probably sales were low on the cabrios.
with the honda/toyota/cabrio thing.. japanese cars are easier to maintain.. and cheaper. vw engineers are smart.. they wire stuff all together so you have to go to the garage to fix the lights that come on. i have a bug (turbo S mind you!!...anyway) when my husband changed the oil, the check engine light came on and after resetting it multiple times, it still was on. but we eventually fixed it. just a pain in the butt with VWs. great looking cars, but maintenance is expensive!! unless you dont care about money, i would get a honda!!!

you're speaking about the equipped-in roll bar. it truly is to assist shrink damage in case of a roll over, and also you do not favor to take it out of the motorcar. it truly is there for a reason.

They felt it was in direct competition with their own VW New Beetle Convertible.

i think it was the fact that they didn't sell as good as they thought they would,,i know one thing for sure now though, the ones out there have become collectors items now,,there's one of those in my home town, and there asking 8 grand for it,,and it needs a lot of work,,and the sad part of it is,,they actually turned down 7 grand for it,i would have taken it,,but that's why they did stop production on them,,good luck hope this help,s.,,happy new years.
