My aunt is really worried about her one year old daughter. She knows how to walk but lately she's been crawling a lot, and rarely walks now, and she use to LOVE walking. Is there anything wrong or is there anything she can do to get her daughter back walking???

Not a problem at all. At least her daughter knows how to walk by one. That's a plus. Some wait a little longer, like some that go a bit faster.
Reason why she's crawling? B/c she's mastered that skill and she can get to places faster.
Have your aunt do more activities with her walking like holding her hand walking around the neighborhood and pointing at objects and talking to her. She'll love it!

There are two possibilities here.

The first is that this child has experienced something that's bothering her, and has caused her behaviour to regress. Don't forget that at this age, she's non-verbal. An older child might act out, or might change their language patterns, but a child this young can't do any of that. So a regression to crawling and perhaps more crying could be an indicator.

However, there is a second possibility, and this one can be scary. This may be a symptom of a medical problem, possibly a very serious one.

Your aunt needs to take her daughter to the doctor as soon as possible and discuss everything that she has seen. Tell her not to take no or I don't know for an answer. If this is a regression for physical reasons, it could be indicative of something life threatening. It may take a number of doctors, but this is not something where you give up without getting an answer.

A cousin of mine had a son who was walking very well, thank you, But at 18 months, they noticed that he was having some problems. His pediatrician didn't have any ideas, but sent the boy to an orthopedic surgeon. The orthopod said there's nothing wrong that I can do anything about, but perhaps your child has a vision problem, and sent the boy to a ophthamologist. The ophthamologist took one look in the boys eyes and sent them, immediately, to a neurosurgeon. He had a large malignant tumor removed from his brain a couple of days later. He was OK for years, but the cancer recurred, and he died of it at 15. However, he died of it 30 years ago, and there have been many, many advances in medicine since. The point here is that your aunt need to get her duaghter to a doctor ASAP and to keep on looking for reasons. The reason could well be something managable.

If this is a medical problem of any type, your aunt is going to need a great deal of support from yourself and the rest of the family. Do whatever you can to help.

Nothing is wrong with her. Sometimes my kids still crawl on the floor and they are 3 and 4. When she realizes walking can be faster she will go back to doing it. No big worries

toddlers improve distinctive skills at distinctive circumstances. If each and every toddler have been the comparable, raising them could be a textbook technique. My oldest boy started strolling early in spite of the undeniable fact that it took him a on an identical time as to get it down. My youngest boy started strolling overdue yet he merely stood up sometime and walked like he'd been doing it for a 365 days. they are the two completely opposite whilst it comprises analyzing and writing. One learns quickly and one does not. in case you spend extremely some time working with the boy and you do no longer see a transformation interior the subsequent 3 to six months then i could be a sprint in contact. My preliminary thught became deafness yet whilst he performs pat a cake he can not be deaf. All toddlers are particularly whiney, noticeably in the experience that your a generic time be sure. you ought to be extra frightened in the experience that your toddler does not whine.....which would be an early sign of autism. I capitalized toddler considering the fact which you ought to comprehend that he's a sprint one. If he remains a sprint one whilst he's 3 or 5 years previous, then yeah thats autism or mentally retarded.

She will start walking again in her own time. Try not to draw too much attention to the fact that she is crawling again. A lot of children regress at something and then go back to the way they were.

There is nothing wrong. Toddlers go thru funny little stages and this simply seems like one of those. Your one year old has probably been walking for only a couple of months and to revert back to crawling is fairly normal. Hang in there

This may throw you for a loop, but has she been tested for arthritis? If it hurts her knees to walk she will crawl to avoid the pain. Arthritis knows no age limit. And it could be she just likes to crawl. But always get medical advice, bones and joints are a tricky area. She could have a small fracture from a fall, twisting the knee just right, anything. Good Luck

I don't think she should worry so much. The crawling motion is good for a baby's developing brain. My son did not walk at all until he was fifteen months. Not because he couldn't but because he didn't want to.Now my son is way ahead all the other children his age on learning. Her baby might just know what it's body needs. So just let them be the way they want. And start worrying if she doesn't want to walk by two. Good luck!

I'm sure theres nothing to worry about. Maybe the little one feels that she can get around better crawling. Your aunt should talk to the doctor about any concerns, but I'm sure its nothing. Kids are funny like that.

I wouldn't worry. Maybe she is just trying to get carried more often. I refused to walk around anyone but was seen walking around when no one else was in the room
