NO! She's THREE! That says it all. Get a good child-rearing book, if you take care of her a lot. T. Berry Brazelton's books are excellent! You must get rid of the notion that a toddler could EVER consciously "have it in" for you! She's just being a kid! She has no idea what lipstick means to you, how valuable it is, nor how upset you'll be. It's a toy to her! Distract her w/something else and KEEP THE STUFF WHERE SHE CAN'T GET AT IT! (My mom learned the same lesson...the hard way...involving re-painting of a room!).

Your additional details lead me to agree with those who say YOU should be punished for ignoring her, talking on the phone rather than really watching her and making such a big fuss about something as miniscule as LIP PROTECTOR! Maybe you should find another line of work!

What kind of Aunt are you?
I guess next time you should not be on the phone!
Why not ask her if she can find it and play the game she wanted to play with you, then you will get that most important lip-protectant back.

Get over it... next time quit the phone talk and pay her more attention. You are the one that needs to get the punishment for being so crabby about a little thing like lip-protectant. As an aunt you have no right to punish her only her parents have that right.

Did she need to go into your purse, or through your things to get it? I have a strict policy with my kids, and my neices and nephew that they are never to go through someone elses belongings unless they have permission or are asked to get something. It is inappropriate. I don't punish my neices and nephews, but I do punish my own if they do it. I would, however, tell my sisters or brother what happened and let them know how I feel about it. Hopefully it won't happen again. And no, I am not a monster parent or aunt, but I do demand respect from children.

no, not at all first the word punish is totally uncalled for in any circumstance, second you left the lip gloss laying around so i wouldn't even class that as her doing anything out of the ordinary being 3 let alone something wrong. go to the shop if your so worried and by another one.

Just play the game with her - let's find the thing! Look together and you will find it. She just wants to play with you. When you have something really important, it's often best to keep it out of children's reach. You'll find it - I am sure your neice likes to play it because she is really good at it. She may also have a favorite hiding spot, her mom will be able to tell you.

Peace!

Ok, you were on the phone, couldn't be bothered to play with her. Gave her your "favorite" lip balm, and think SHE needs to be punished. How about you should be punished for stupidity.

Okay NO you should not punish her, why was your lip protectant where she could get to it anyway? You are the "adult" you should be alot more careful when children are around. I would be alot more concerned about whether or not she ate it.

She is only 3 years old. What is she doing with your lip-protectant anyway? Is it even safe for her to have? I would think that you would be more concerned with not knowing if she ate it or not.
