While I understand alot of peoples' views on tipping, I myself feel that if the service is fine and you've enjoyed everything in the manner that the Server presented everything to you and the Server's personality and attitude, then I feel that they do deserve a tip, regardless of whether or not I'm ever going to go back to that restaurant. In most cases, the Server is the true representative of the restaurant. While people will argue that the food is the actual lure, and it is, if you have a Server that doesn't present the food well and/or present themselves well, you will still be turned off and remember how you were treated, regardless of how good the food was. It's the service that stands out first and foremost.

I'm very appreciative of the way I'm treated, so if someone is good/nice to me, I always show my appreciation. I feel that this is the right and correct thing to do.

Have a lovely rest of the evening.

We had a terrible experience at a Famous Daves. It was busy, and we got good service on drinks, but the food never came. My bf was getting really pissed. Finally the manager came over, and announced our order was lost. BF was really close to losing it as we were on limited time. Manager first offered to give us 1/2 off, then when the meal finally came, it was for free. We had planned on paying with a credit card since we were visiting the US for the day. Since there was no bill, there was little opportunity to tip. We had $3 US on us, maybe. We left the money, the staff was trying hard at the end. We probably won't go back, but the fault of the kitchen staff shouldn't reflect in what kind of service you should receive.

Waiters/servers make a good portion of their income from tips. In a way, a tip is like production pay. Tip according to the service. If the service is horrible, don't leave a tip or just leave a few pennies. If you leave a few pennies, it should send the message that the waiter/server's service sucks. If you don't leave a tip, the waiter/server will just think you are rude.

You should tip, because it is the right thing to do. I agree with what another answer said about bad karma, what goes around comes around. Your lack of respect for a server that you know survives on tips, will come around and bite you in the *** eventually. Also, a lot of servers change jobs eventually, and they ALWAYS remember a stiffer! ALWAYS! If you go into a restaurant and your server ends up being the one you stiffed at another restaurant, you will be eating spit, snot, or worse!
Dave Barry once said in a column that you could tell a lot about a person by how they treat their server. He said if he is having a business meeting at a restaurant and the other person stiffs the server, he is DONE with that person and refuses to do business with him or her.

It depends a lot on where you live and what the restuarant's policies are. Some restuarants have service included in the bill whereas I know in the US, they expect you to tip up to 20% of the bill since there isn't service included.

I live in the UK and there isn't too much emphasis on tipping such-and-such percent so if the meal and service was good, I give about £1-2 whereas if it was rubbish then they get nothing.

It depends on why you won't come back. IF the food tasted bad that isn't the waitor/waitress's fault and they don't get the same salaries as the rest of the work. Waitress's/waitors are paid less and make most of their money off of times. If the wait staff is poor then I would say no. IF they try then I would say yes.

Because the server still did you a service and should be compensated.
I know it seems backwards-restaurants should pay their staff the standard rates and tipping abolished-but that's the way the world works for now!

Because the servers are taxed based on their sales. For example, if yor tab is $100, it is assumed the server makes at least a $12 tip, and they are taxed on the supposed $12 income.

If you do not tip, the server actually loses money because he or she has to pay tax out-of-pocket on something that was never earned.

You're not tipping the restaurant; you're tipping the server. It's called decency.

Because you should still show that you were somewhat helped just give a smaller tip.
