In poetry crimson is associated with blood. Imagine a color btween red and maroon. Harvard and Alabama use crimson as their school color.

Go to almost any University of Alabama website and you'll get a pretty good idea of the color crimson. :-) If I had to describe it, I'd say crimson is a faded or pinkish red.
