Get the VIN # then go to kbb.com/ i belive they charge a small fee now to check the history of a vehical,good luck

if you can get the title or the serial number off the car you can have it run on a car-fax check ,and see how it comes back,but if it was in a small accident and never turned in,,it wont show anything against it,,it will come back clear,,they don't always put every little thing against one,,id also look at the title really good,make sure all the info on it is accurate,and noting has been erased or marked out,,if you see this,,that s a bad sign,,good luck hope this help,s.happy new years.

If the owner has the title and there are no other names listed on the title then it is free and clear--that is how it works in my state anyway

Ask to see the title. Read it. If it doesn't have the name of the seller, or has a bank or finance company on as the legal owner, hand it back, put your wallet away and leave.

carfax should always be the first step. It's not foolproof, but it should always be the first thing you look at.
