It has the same transaxle as Cadillac deville,4T80-E if a code sets in pcm that has to do with say a component slipping the pcm has a strategy built into it to increase line pressure to try to compensate for this condition, which in turn will cause hard shifts.I would have it ck for any codes to be sure.i have seen many t-converters that caused these complaints in this tans.

Trans-axle, oh yeah. Check fluids of course. If it continues 'put a wrench on it' before it damages downstream; and it will, I assure you. I had a 1998 Olds 88 and it sometimes did this. It seemed to coincide with an acceleration lift at shift. Steady on the gas-pedal during shifts.

Shifting hard isnt anything to worry about. when it is slipping then you should worry. If it is shifting hard then that means everything is working the way it should.
