Blanket parties are reserved for people who screw their entire platoon. It's not sanctioned; if a person sees a blanket party they should report it. The DI is not allowed to touch the recruits, so if he hits a recruit, it's the recruit's job to tell someone, sooner rather than later.

Most offenses with get you push ups or sit ups, maybe running; cleaning, usually with the smallest scrubbing instrument on hand (cough). There's likely a few particular to a DI; I know of one who would have his winter recruits shoot snowflakes in their skivvies if the conditions were right. Another would put the recruit in a yoga pose -- the tree, I think it translates as -- and would not let him leave until he stood for five minutes without putting the other foot down. (you stand on one foot. the other foot is on the inside of your thigh. your hands are over your head, pressed together in a prayer position. it's not easy to maintain.) They could have you spell out the entire pledge of allegiance in phonetic alphabet while putting together and taking apart your gun. It's only limited by the creativity of the DI

DI's have a whole load of ways to keep people in line. Blanket parties are done by the other people in the bay. It's done after lights out and the DI's are gone. Basic training breaks the civilian out of you and makes you a marine, soldier, whatever. The entire boot camp is just one big punishment if you think about it. Just some days there is less than others. But the only way to really know is to join the military and find out first hand!

You might make your platoon do a lot of push ups. And trust me they will not be none to happy. Don't screw up.
