If you are a true believer, you will place the same weight of authority on the Bible, the Word of God as the Lord Jesus Christ did. If you read the Gospels it is an inescapable fact that He based His entire life, and justified all He did on the basis of the authority of the Word of God, the Scriptures. As He said "the Scripture cannot be broken" (John 10:35)

read the bible, go to a bible using church so you can learn, and kick it with bible believing christians. Just like the university. you kicked it with people in your same major, studied the right texts, and went to teachers who could show you the ropes. The study ofChrist is no different. Perhaps your version is difficult depending on your level of bible knowledge and perhaps a easier version would help. trygoing to biblegateway.com. Also, I'm assuming you are saved, but if not I would pray to God first and ask Him to enlighten His word for you so you can see the saving work of Christ. If you are saved, then I would still pray to God the same pray because the Holy Spirit will guide you and the Lord will speak to you through His word. Try slow like reading one Psalm or one Proverb a day. Or reading the Gospels first. I like MARK, But a LOT of people LOVE John. God bless you on your quest.

Well, The bible is full of conflicting stories of what to do. Atleast conflicting in the short term. THe other benefit of recomending reading the Bible is God can do more then anyof us could ever do in showing/teaching you God's perspective on things. Actually, none of us are really qualified to speak for God. God has only authorized to provide witness on God's behalf through our own experiences. God is more than capable and will speak God's self. The bible is one of many ways God does that.

When questioning what the bible teaches on a specific subject, it is only reasonable to go directly to the source. Sometime reading the same verse twice will give you a whole new outlook on that particular verse.

People shouldn't just say read the Bible, if there is a question tell them what part to read, or quote it to them. and I agree that you do need secondary sources that are reliable too. It is important to read all of the Bible but whats more important is to understand it.

"I know it is true because the bible tells me so " means they have no logical proof of what they are trying to push on you.If what you're saying is really true back it up with hard evidence. That's what we do with everything else .As for religion being a matter of faith well I refuse to have faith in any philosophy which demands that I become ignorant in order to support it 's flawed logic.I was really disappointed by pope john paul's book that came out about ten years ago.It was just a bunch of answers that amounted to "because the bible tells me so" that's dumb .I expected better from this guy .Ever hear of don't believe everything you read ?I wanted to know his own personal reasons why he believes what he does. Not that he believes it because he was brainwashed or decide to capitulate his intelligence to a book that no one knows for sure who wrote.Think people !Think!
