My friend is a retired head of secret service and all other bottles of White Star I've seen have the traditional red circular label at the base of the neck of the bottle. This bottle, however has a white circular stamp reading "By Appointment to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II". Was this an alternate logo or did my friend re-gift a bottle of Champagne the Queen gave to W?

I think it may be imported. Wines and liquors have different labels in different countries.

Definitely, you should enjoy it. Because of the way champagne is made, it's tough to tamper with. It should be quite safe, and it'll probably be very, very good.

And Happy New Year! You're set up for it -- get a friend to share it with.

It means that QEII endorses that brand and has used it. It is called a Royal Warrant, and if the royal family uses that brand for so many years, the firm can apply for the warrant which helps sell goods.

And yes, of course it is imported. It is French.

EVEN IF YOUR FRIEND RE-GIFTED IT, YOU SHOULD FEEL SPECIAL TO GET SOMETHING LIKE THAT. HE WOULD NOT RE-GIFT SOMETHING THAT SPECIAL TO ANYONE. YOU SHOULD ENJOY IT!
