Absolutely normal! I'm a student studying Speech Pathology, and in one of my textbooks it says that during the time between their first and second birthdays children typically understand more than they speak. So she knows a lot more than she lets you think. While she is perfectly normal, be sure and read to her, she'll learn more words that way. Also, someone mentioned not to talk baby to her, but actually talking baby to her will help her learn the importance of inflection and intonation which will help her later on with conversational speaking!

You're doing fine with her and she's right on track!

Sounds like she's doing fine to me. All kids are different. My 18 month old twins can say a couple words. Their favorite right now is "Hey Look!" (which sounds like "ey yook")

My first was an earlier talker. He could say just about anything by the time he was two.

My second was a late talker. At 19 months, I'm not sure he could say anything, other than Mama, Dada and drink

I even have 5 childrens and that doesn't sound to time-honored or usual for a 19 month previous...My youngest has been talking in finished sentences when you consider that she replaced into that age. She is 3 now...yet what can i'm able to she has been examined and is as smart as a 7 365 days previous....wager I cant somewhat help dont be attentive to a lot approximately usual or below usual infants!

It's all about the child. When I was 19 months I was speaking in short sentences...and my daughter is 18 months and although she can talk she doesn't want to for some reason. We've started the crusade to use "her big girl words". Another thing to think about is birth order. My cousins have all had the problem that their younger children don't talk as much, even thought they can, because they have older siblings who are willing to talk for them. I think it's perfectly normal but if you're really worried bring it up at the next check up.

She will speak what she hears so don't baby talk to her, say your words as though you were speaking to another adult. At 2 my daughter spoke two languages,( what words and short sentences she could) and understood them as well. My Mother would speak to her only in Spanish, I spoke English. My Mother knew 5 languages so I was lucky that way. I think your child is in the norm though,so keep up the good work.

My son didn't talk much at that age, enough so that I asked his doctor about it because I was worried. Turns out he was just fine and talks like crazy now. I am sure your little girl is perfectly within the normal range.

Sounds normal. My son is 20 months old and says ma ma,daddy, bye bye,hi,hello, door,up,light, shoes, coat, kisses,no,ba ba-for bottle, etc,He also says other words-it seems he is learning a new word each day.He recently learned bath and no throw.
Every child develops differently-but I am sure she is fine!

Nothing is really "average". Some 19 month olds don't say ANYTHING... and there is nothing necessarily wrong with them. But.... I think what your child is saying, sounds pretty great!
