It depends on the type of pride. Pride in your children is good. Pride in a job well done is also good. Pride is only a moral shortcoming when it becomes arrogance and a sense of superiority. We should remember that as God's children we are all equal and deserving of respect. As Christians we are called to be servants to others. This calling cannot be fulfilled if we are stuck up with our own importance.

You may be confusing pride with self respect.

Pride is not a virtue if we define pride as being overly impressed with ourselves. In that case, the proud person feels justified when comparing himself to others. None of us are perfect. We are all ashamed of things that we have done, so none of us are justified in really being proud of ourselves.

Self respect is something that is expected in a civilized person. The best example of a person with no self respect is the person who is involved in shady dealings. The person who knows how to work the system. The person who takes advantage of another. That is a person with no self respect.

If everyone took pride in themselves, they would not only become arrogant and self-obsessed, but they would also fail to praise God for what He has done in their lives. And once they believe in themselves instead of God, then God stops trying to help them.
Just look at Sampson. Once He stopped praising God and began to believe the power came from his hair, he was tricked by Deliah and was blinded.
I think pride is very a very overrated quality, but that's just me.

Whoa, you must be young. Here will be something interesting to just observe over the rest of your life. Watch for those that are particulary prideful, and just wait and see what happens. They fall harder, cannot admit when wrong and seem to just embarrass themselves a bit more than the rest of the population. We are not talking here about "pride in a job well done", kind of pride. If YOU are then it would make sense its a positive for you.

Because people who are proud are harder to control. Religions work on shame and guilt. People who are proud have neither. The religious and political hustlers would rather you stay a pathetic subservient little lamb. If the sheeple were proud and had self determination they would have no need for religions or governments. They would overthrow the shackles of control and take stock of their own lives.

Because the Bible says that "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18 . If you think of the example of Jesus, our Lord, who was a king in heaven and humbled himself to come to this earth and live among us and even die for us, you will come to see the ultimate example of humility that has ever been shown. We as Christians who claim to be followers of Christ must follow in his footsteps. If the Lord came to serve, then we should be willing to serve. God loves the quality of humble willingness to do His will! It is our willingness to say not my will, but thy will to the Lord, that allows the Lord to mold us into what is His will for us. If we are too proud to ask the Lord to lead us, much calamity will befall us! Because He always knows what is best for us and we have to have a humble heart to listen.

Pride is okay up to a point and then it simply becomes boorish. Pride leads to arrogance and conceit.

when you are so proud that you become arrogant, you begin to think you are superior to others. arrogant people are irritating. besides just be an annoyance, when people begin to think they are somehow bigger and better than you they lose compassion. for example, in American history, whites justified their treatment of slaves by saying that they were subhuman. once they aknowledged that they were at the same level, how could they continue to treat them that way with no guilt?

Pride is one of my biggest features. I am very proud of what I am. A lot of people mistake this as a hatred for others, that I consider myself above. But they don't know me. Pride is great. But it is being seriously downplayed for this "we are all one" attitude.
