Mohammed was an Arab religious, political, and military leader who established Islam and the Muslim community. He united the tribes of the Arabian Peninsula into a federation of allied tribes with its capital at Medina. Muslims consider him to be the greatest of all God's prophets. Supposedly, he received divine revelations from God, which he wrote down word for word in their original Arabic. Once compiled, these dictations became the Qu'ran. He restored the original monotheistic faith of Abraham that had gotten misinterpreted and corrupted over time by the Jews and Christians.
