I don't want to be preachy so I'm simply going to say , Yes 4 yrs old is extremely to young. I'm not even going to mince words. Relaxing hair before puberty is a big no no in my book.

Since I don't have any details on your daughters I just be general. To make it easier on you I suggest choosing a good product line and stick with it if it is working out well.

Product Suggestions:
-Dark and Lovely Beautiful Begginings
-Just for Me
-Burt's Bees Shampoos and Conditoner ( my top choice)
-Hair Oil: Kemi-Oyl, Elasta QP products, and Olive Oil Hair Lotion
-Jam , or a protein Gel

As for styling you have plenty of choices:
-Afro Puffs
-cornrows
-ponytail, or lots of pony tails
-etc.

For styling option for kids go to Mahogany Beauty, and see hair style gallery for Kids.

Good question!! As a cosmetologist licensed in Michigan I definitely recommend you wait. It is very important to understand that women's hair changes once menses starts as the hormones in the body can change the composition. I know a lot of people will tell you that they did it or know someone who did their daughter's hair and it was just fine, but this isn't true in most cases. The products on the market that are "for little girls, no lye" are just that A LIE. They just don't have as much lye as the regular relaxers. Just continue to press her hair and condition, condition, condition. You can soften and moisturize her hair which will make it more manageable by using quality products. Motions for Kids has a great product line that I highly recommend. Good Luck.

If you want it straight just press it..

Its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too early for chemicals.

Back in the day a good hairdresser wouldn't chemically treat a child until she was about 10 or 12... but anything goes now for a buck

check out http://www.herspecialhair.com for more info on caring for her natural hair.. why is it necessary to straighten her natural hair?? She's just a little girl.. they don't need complicated hairstyles.. just some afro pufs, braids, ponytails, simple plaits.

Teach her to love her natural hair from a young age...

Yes. It is too young. Keep her hair tight and filled with anxiety. Remember the old saying .. Spare the rod and spoil the child's hair. Good Luck ! :)

I totally wouldn't perm or relax my child's hair at that age...they are too wiggly and impatient, I think...also, for the upkeep...please...

I would wait til they were a little older

Use an electric pressing comb and some "Just For Me" detangler before hand; or Try the leave in conditioner.
