Terrorism is here, has been here, and will continue to be present for many years to come. This is because we face domestic threats as well as foreign one. In fact, there are hundreds of cases each year where law enforcement at the local, state, and federal levels have detered and prevented attacks against US interests - you just dont hear about it in the daily media.
I know this because I am funded by Homeland Security to administer the program at a county level. What funding that does come down the pipe is heavily controlled and we are accountable for every cent. For instance, I need to seek approval from the state and federal level before I purchase anything from our Homeland Security fund. All spending must be applied towards projects that are aligned with state and federal terrorism plans and protocols. And we also are frequented by local and state auditors each year.
Also, terrorism is practiced in other areas besides IEDs in populated places or at landmarks. There are money laundring networks, information networks, rectruitment efforts and deployments to all areas of the world to fight in the jihad. If you try hard enough, you can be recruited and deployed to fight right from your computer. The good news is that there are many tools that local and federal law enforcement have to deter, detect, and defend such actions.
In conclusion, terrorism does exist and forunately for all of us, it remains out of the spotlight from our citizenry. There are people working very hard to keep us all safe - regardless of your nationality or religious preference.
Thanks for asking...
Happy New Year!

Our homeland security is horribly underfunded. the 9/11 commission report hasn't had any of the action items taken care of. Still, no attacks. Why? It's not as big a threat as Bush makes it out to be. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 (quoted from George W. Bush, 2005). The Downing Street memo showed that Bush wanted any excuse whatsoever to invade Iraq. Our military is fighting insurgents, not finding Osama Bin Laden. Still, no more attacks on the US and Bin Laden runs free. Even thru Bush's mismanagement of the fight on terrorism we don't have attacks because the terrorists aren't as big a problem as the administration wants us to think.

If you want to stop terrorism, cut off their financial resources.

Support the troops. Send them kevlar vests and silly string. It's more than the government is doing!

Here's some food for thought. There haven't been a foreign attack on US soil (unless you count the embassy in Africa which didn't really affect americans as a whole and it's still on the other side of the Atlantic, and the USS Cole isn't exactly US soil) since 1812 when Canada torched the first White House and the first WTC attack. So that only leaves TWO foreign terrorist act from almost a hundred years ago until now. That's pretty good compared to the constant attacks in, say, Iraq. So...why is Bush putting so much emphasis on terrorism? For genuine concern? To put fear into people so he can manipulate them like putty? I'll leave you to think about that one...

Whenever some innocent defenseless person or peoples are being marauded by others(such as Darfur) we are also. It's an attack on freedom in general and the more ground these radicals get the more worse off we are.

Take a look at Al Qaedas time scale. They have all the time in the world. They are waiting it out. They want us to think we have won.
Al Qaeda attacked America/the WTC the first time back in 1993. They didnt strike the WTC or on Americas soil again for another 8 years.
Some will say its because Bush has done wonders in keeping America safe. I say its because they are just waiting for the perfect time.
Oh, the old arguement that since we are fighting them in Iraq they cant attack us here.....exactly how does that work? How would that stop 10 terrorists from the middle east from coming to America and doing something terrible? It didnt help Britain. They are fighting them in Iraq, yet they still got attacked on their own home turf.

Because unlike the LBHCB(Liberal Bleeding Hearts Club Band) would have us doing we are actually defending freedom and our way of life from fanatical lunatics who would have us go back to the middle ages. And despite their claims we may actually be doing a pretty good job too.
