but it also depends on other factors.. like..

eating well-- dont eat crap.. because even if you do 2380913 crunches a day, there will still be that layer of fat covering your packs

and make sure you run or do some sort of cardio. cardio helps the body burn fat.

you can also vary your workout instead of doing the same exercises over and over again-- try laying on your back and lifting your legs up in a 90 degree angle, and slowly dropping them a few inches off the ground.. and repeat.. youll have a six pack in no time !

Well, if I'm not mistaken, you want not just muscle gain but fat loss. Unfortunately enough, you can't choose where to lose fat; you just exercise, and your body gets rid of the fat where it needs to. So focus on aerobics and such until you've lost enough fat, then train the muscles you want. With weight training, exercising three days a week until tired should be enough, with just enough weight that it doesn't feel too hard but you still get tired after a reasonable number of repetitions.
