Cats mainly breed in season and the season starts around Easter. If you wait until then and ask at your local pet shop they should be able to put you in touch with a local breeder.
Good Luck!

Go to your local RSPCA or Animal shelter they will probably have some. Kittens get born and dumped year round! You will be expected to pay something and most have a minimum donation for each type of animal. The money will go to a good cause instead of lining the pockets of some pet store owner! They'll make enough out of you as it is! If they have kittens ready for adoption they should be 7 - 8 weeks old which is the best time to get a kitten. Prepare what you might need for the kitten first, bedding, toys, food dishes and litter tray and then find your kitten. Good luck ! Enjoy being owned!

You have a few reasonable options, animal shelters/SPCA and many vet hospitals have kittens available to be adopted almost all the time. Also, there are usually plenty of people giving away free kittens that their cats accidentally bred.
I would recommend the animal shelter/vet route, because these animals usually have had FeLV tests/deworming/initial vaccinations done, and may come with discounted or free spaying/neutering. Adding up all of these expenses that would be incurred with a free kitten, and the adoption fee (usually $50-120) becomes the best deal.
If you are set on getting a certain pure bred, you will need to look for local dealers, and prepare to spend upwards of $400. Avoid getting kittens (purebred or otherwise) from pet stores, unless the pet stores partner with animal shelters (some in the USA do this), because of the risk of kitten mills and questionable breeding practises.

The BEST thing that you can do is adopt one from the SPCA, HSUS, local shelter or at petco. Those are the best pets because they know what it's like to not be loved and when you take one home with you they are the most loving and grateful. I am not trying to deter you from adopting a kitten but also consder an adult cat they are just as wonderful and in any of these place your pet comes spyed/neutered and has his vaccines. Or do as I have done eith my 5 cats pick them up from the street I found them when they were all under 1 year old and they are all perfectly healthy and the best pets.

ADOPT a kitten. Do not buy from a petshop and avoid buying from newspapers (although "free" kitten ads, the kittens need rescued, just make sure they get spayed/neutered when they are old enough. You can't even begin to IMAGINE how many cats are out there homeless so go to a shelter. Heck the most loving cats I've had are rescues.

consider getting an adult cat, because they're harder to get adopted than kittens. also try a black cat, because they're harder to get adopted too for some reason.
go to an animal shelter or a no-kill animal rescue group. are you in the UK? i don't know if this website features any pets in your country, but it does all over the US- www.petfinder.com. there are thousands of pets on that site just waiting for homes.
when you go to a shelter or a group, the cat/kitten is already fixed and has been vaccinated. you pay a rather small fee for the animal and it has already had all those services. sometimes they even come with a box and starting supplies. my local animal shelter does that.

Most rescue centers have kittens so this should be the best place as there are so many unwanted cats and kittens who need a good home. Why not get two they can keep each other company and are so funny to atch when they play together.

Hi, I think the best time to get one is when you have some time off or are able to spend at least a week home with it. When you first get the little thing home it's going to be confused, insecure & missing its litter mates - so it is really a good idea if you're there to reassure it & keep it company.
If you're hoping to rescue one - then try this site, which should be able to give you details of a shelter near you in Essex:
http://www.catchat.org/kittens.html
Otherwise you could try Kittenlist - which lets you search by area:
http://www.kittenlist.co.uk/index.php?page=adverts&klv=781ba720c04b2deb94e95cdfe9782780
Other good sites to try are Preloved:
http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.listadverts/86aa5dc1.html
and Pets4Homes:
http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pets4homes/home.nsf/Kittens-Cats-Sale!openform&Location=Essex
I'd also have a look in your local paper (& possibly their website) and look for adverts in the window of local petshops or newsagents.
Good luck

Check for your local animal shelter. You'll be saving a life and getting a companion at the same time, and mixed breed cats are just as delightful as purebreds. (I have both.) And sometimes purebreds do end up at shelters. Spring is a big kitten time, but usually you can find one any time of year.

Don't buy a kitten go to your local shelter and adopt one. There are millions of animals that are put to sleep everyday in animal shelters. Also they might have already spayed or neutered them so you won't have to worry about that!
