Yes he can definitely find his way home. We only let our cats out occasionally and our cat didn't come back one day. We searched everywhere and kept calling him. I was so upset. But the next day he was back. My husband used to have a cat who went missing one time and came back after a few years. Cats are pretty smart and if he was scared by a dog he's probably hiding somewhere and will come back when he feels safe.

Don't worry and keep your hopes high. A close friend lost her cat as she was moving into a new rental. Previously she had lived with her boyfriend's mother 17 miles across town. In the midst of moving, the cat ran out of the rental and was not seen for over two months. Turns out the cat made it back to her previous home. She got a phone call from her boyfriends mother telling her the cat was there! It was under weight and had some battle wounds but OK otherwise. so head up! Maybe you can put a familiar blanket or an item with your scent out on your porch for piece of mind. I feel for you and wish you the very best in finding kitty!! Post some ads and check your local shelters too!

If he is not use to being outdoors, he likely will not have gone far. He may not have answered you initially because he was scared. Take some clothes recently worn by whomever he is closest to in your house and put it in a box (faced away from the wind) near where he ran off, as close to your house, as possible. Put either his normal food out there or some canned food. Sprinkle some catnip around, as well, if you have some. Check in the middle of the night a couple of times and call his name (cats normally prowl during these hours and it will be quiet enough he will feel safe coming out. If you do not see him for a few days but the box is slept in or some of the food is gone you may want to get a live trap. A local animal shelter may loan you one. They catch cats without hurting them by using food as bait.

The same thing happened to me about 5 years ago with my cat. A cat who was only a indoor kitty since we've had him. My brother left an outside door open and my cat wandered outside, we searched for him as well and could not find him. We put his food and water outside as well as some of his favorite toys hoping he'd come home. We waited for about 4 days and finally one night I saw a pair of glowing eyes staring at me from some bushes about 15 feet away. I grabbed a bag of his treats and slowly he came closer and I knew it was my cat. My sister snuck up near him and grabbed him so he wouldn't run away again. To this day he's never ran away again. Hopefully your cat will find his way home again soon once he is done exploring. Putting up posters/flyers never hurts either, as well as calling the local animal shelters. Good luck and God bless.

Some cats can. If the cat has landed in unfamiliar territory, it may be difficult though. If he's tagged and microchipped, someone could find him and bring him back to you. There is a chance, if the cat wanders back into familiar places he could find his way, and I've heard of a cat that traveled thousands of miles to come home when her owner moved.

If he an outdoor cat? If your cat spends time outside, then yes he will be able to find his way home. If he is an indoor cat, then he doesnt know the surrounding and will Not be able to find his way home.

I urge you to continue to look for him though, I had a friend whos outdoor cat went missing for a week and they found him later hungry and trapped in a ditch.

I hope this helps.

Definitely. Our cat, which was a house cat her entire life, got out of the house and disappeared for almost 3 weeks. All of a sudden, after we thought she was gone forever, she showed up at the door. So, yes, definitely.

Instead of waiting like a sitting duck at home, why don't you start making fliers and post them wherever you think is appropriate. I strongly believe cat manage to find his way back but posting fliers increase the odds.

Hope you find your cat soon. Meow~
