We're in the military and our son has autism. I was wondering if there were any special grants or organizations that could help us? We're in the lower part of the pay scale. We also have a daughter, but so far no signs of autism with her. Thanks.

I also have a daughter with autistic symptoms. She also has symptoms of Aspergers but not enough of either to make a full diagnosis. So her dx is PDD. Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
If you are looking for Federal Grants, I don't know of any. You would have to do a web search. But low income housing is a strong possiblity. As well as SSI and SSDI.
She goes to Northeast Occupational Exchange.. She is in a group that helps to teach things like cooking and hygiene ect. Things the school was SUPPOSED to teach. It goes from 9am to 2 pm. She has a counselor and a case manager.
Start by calling your local social services. Here is Dept of Human Services. Some places it is Family and Childrens Services, every place has a different name.
I know there is something out there. Keep trying. Keep calling till you get the answers you need.

Do you have a legal assistance? Here in Maine it is Pine Tree Legal. If you have something like that, it would be a good place to start.

Also go to http://www.helpmelaw.org if no one wants to help you.
You can also try http://www.help.com
It took us years to fiannly get help. Our daughter is 23 now and was only dx in the last year or so.

Keep going till you get answers. Till YOU are satisfied with the answers!
Some social services will be reluctant to help until they are pushed into it.

camp life is brutal, there is nothing left for anything when the drums beat the war cries of generals, the infirmaries on base is all that there was and they are sadistic, but they know how to get these jobs but have no idea of what to do other than compliance to their superiors, school of hard knocks really sucks
