I would gargle with warm salt water. Ask your dentist if, you can use orajel or Sensodyne tooth paste. It's not really a good idea to have an ongoing infection while pregnant. It's not healthy for the baby. I would get a 2nd opinion and talk to your Primary doctor.
The dentist doesn't want to treat you for fear of his insurance would not cover the liability & it not being good for the baby.
That being said, you shouldn't leave your infection untreated either.

I am also pregnant right now, and have been awake all night with a horrible toothache. I have an appointment later today, and they said as long as I get info from my OB saying they can do xrays with a lead apron, injections for numbness with or without epinephrin, and can prescribe antibiotics, that I am fine with getting treated. I called my OB and she OK'd it all. To relieve the pain until I can get in there, I am rinsing my mouth with Listerine every 30 minutes and it helps somewhat. I too have heard clove oil works best. Thats what they used to numb you at the dentist years ago. DO NOT take ibuprofen. Pregnant women are not supposed to use anything containing that at all. Tylenol and Extra Strength Tylenol are the ONLY pain relievers that have been actually tested and found to be safe for pregnant women. That came straight from my OB. Disolving a Tylenol on your tooth can make it worse, do not try that. I would call another dentist. I hope some of this info has been helpful. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy!

You need to see an oral surgeon and have it taken out. They may not be able to put you under, but I can't see where novacain will hurt. I had mine taken out that way. Plus he would know what kind of antibiotics you can take that won't hurt the baby. They operate on pregnant women all them time without complications, so find someone else. You are just suffering needlessly. And also having an infected tooth can be dangerous.

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is Ambusol? The stuff that you give to babies to soothe their gums when they are teething.

But before you take anything- even over the counter; talk to you doctor as it might affect the baby!

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

naproxen will probably help the pain (aleve) but you are pregnant, so can't you only take tylenol?
