Ask for it. A lot can depend on you rating and ASVAB scores. The higher your ASVAB and the more undermanned your rating is, the more leverage you have.

Our son refused to sign his contract at MEPS because he didn't have everything they promised in writing. They promptly put him up in a hotel for another night and rewrote the contract the next day.

Also, one of the Recruits in his division came out as an E-6. Yes, that's a First Class Petty Officer. He's now a member of the Navy Band. I'm sure this guy was an exception. And their can be a price to pay too. The RDC's made life really tough for this guy while he was in Boot.

Good luck!

If you recruit two people that make it into the nuke program then you will start at E-3. You can also get three people in any program to start at E-3. If you complete the DEP book, get all of your sign offs and pass an initial PRT you can be advanced to E-2.

If you recruit at least 3 other ppl who sign and do go to basic training is one way.

Another is to try to work, work, and work really hard at your local recruiting office. The ppl in charge may like you enough to acknowledge your work:-)

Good luck!

Gaining rate when you first enlist is based on timing, how long you've been in. Once you get to E-4 then you have to be recomended for promotion.

Yes you can have your father pull some strings so you can fly jets over Texas while other are dying in a war far away. Then you can even skip out on that shammy little duty and become commander in chief later!
