It's when you ask the bible a question, close your eyes, open to a random page, and put your finger on a word without looking. Whatever that word is (or phrase) has something to do with the answer to your question.

Yep I heard of this from the book and film, Running with Scissors.

This is the religious equivalent of Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. I think it's cute. It's just about as scientific as believing in whatever religion you were born into.

I've done that - I'll sometimes ask a question, and just randomly choose a page and point blindly, and take that as an answer.
I don't limit myself to the Bible, though - try using some other book, if you're particularly bored. (It's kind of like a Magic Eightball sort of effect.)

I do not believe in doing this at all.
The results you get would be something like this--You would open your Bible to the spot where it says that Judas hung himself and then you would close your Bible and open it again to a passage that says go and do likewise!!

Well, that is as good a way as any. When you're just not sure how, gotta start somewhere right? Only thing I do that is a little bit different; is to say a prayer to Jesus before I start that way He might lead me to a word or a phrase that gets my attention.

I have heard of it before. I think that to receive any answers and to adequately understand the bible anyway, you must accept Jesus as your Savior and strive for a personal relationship with Him. Then you must study your bible.

We study line upon line, precept upon precept.
One must develop a habbit of daily study in order to gain the whole counsel of God.
2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I think the technique works just as good as with any other random book. Try "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card.

I think it's just like a person saying "I have a rock that keeps tigers away!" They believe it works because they've never seen a tiger.
You'll see the word you're pointing to, and make it fit your question because you want it to.

Probably just about as effective as flipping a coin - it gives you an answer, but a completely unintelligent one.
