I plucked my upper lip hair because it looked like I had a light mustache. Several weeks later the hair started growing back in and even though I bleach the hairs that have reached the surface, I have the light mustache again (probably due to the hairs that haven't reached the surface yet). I don't know how long it will take those hairs to get to the surface and at that point I'll be where I started and the cycle will continue. Worse, though, would be if, after the hair grows back, even with bleaching, the dark roots would cause a permanent shadow (I have light sking and dark hair).

I didn't have that much noticeable upper lip hair before and worry that it may take a really long time for the newer hair to spring up. I am thinking I'll need something more permanent like electrolysis or laser hair removal.

Anyone with similar experience that could recommend what I should do? Thanks.

I think if I wax it, I'll still have the shadow problem when the hairs are sprouting up.

Is laser removal permanent? What kind of laser should be used on pale skin/dark hair? Also, what are the advantages of using laser over electrolysis? Thanks!

I have very light skin and dark hair. I did laser and it took it all away. It is fairly expensive, but definitely worth it. Waxing it every 2-3 weeks is just going to be a pain for you, I think.

I had the same issue and finally used Surgi wax to get rid of it. It lasts a lot longer and gets rid of the hair totally, unlike bleach. Over time I noticed less and less grew back (took a year). It is sold at drug stores and is so easy to use. Also didn't make me break out - some facial wax kits can cause pimples. Make sure you wash your face before and after. And definitely don't use the wax kits that come with the wax attached to plastic strips, almost always cause breakouts. Good luck!
