What you need to do is sing constantly with people who are good singers, whether it be an MP3 player or your Mom! If your in school join the choir and spend extra time with the teacher outside of class. Even if your not in school find a local choir or join your church's. You can also look for notices or look in the phonebook for a voice teacher. Your local civic theater will probably have voice lessons as well. Keep trying and NEVER give up. Anyone can sing if they put there mind to it!

I am an actress and I was recently in a show that required me to sing, which I have never done on stage in my adult life. I took a workshop with a singing/voice coach. It was about 3 hours long, and there were about 10 other people in the workshop too. Anyway it worked great and she helped people match keys to a piano.
There are some people who are tone deaf and can't seem to pick it up. There were a person there at the workshop that couldn't get it.
But it worked for me! Try searching for voice coaches online and ask if they have any upcoming workshops.

Here's the thing... if you have no clue get an instructor. My belief is that everyone can sing, well, at least to differing degrees. Two things are happening here, 1. you aren't breathing properly to produce a solid tonal characteristic and 2. you need to train your ear to hear the sound being played and reproducing it through your vocal cords. Good luck.

Go ahhhh while you take each finger down each key in an octave. If you song high make it an higher octave. If you sing low then maybe start around middle C. Then you can find your chord. I sing in C, it is the most common. Try C when in doubt.

You dont need to take years and years of lessons by a professional. Take a few piano lessons. Learn your scales and arpeggios. Take a few vocal lessons. Vocal singing is just matching pitches. Sing scales; major, minor; melodic; hamronic, and thats it.

If you are in school ask your music teacher, or chorus teacher(sometimes one and the same), or churches have music leaders who might be able to teach you how to sing. There are also music schools in larger areas and many music and voice teachers. Check at a local college about learning voice, or vocal, music.

They make voice training machines where you match the note and it shows you if you are sharp or flat. It's like a guitar tuner. After that it's practice until it hurts.
