Hey, I've been wandering around a bit lately, and am looking for some good book ideas.

I've been putting off getting a copy of the Satanic Bible, as well as some of Crowley's books, and I wanted to know if The Satanic Bible was worth reading first, or should I save it till last.

Also, would it be new material, or simply "Hedonism," this and "Atheism," that?

Thanks in advance.

Oops, I misspelled "Bible," in the title."

I've read the regular Bible, didn't really help adhere me to anything, other than disdain.

If you are reading Crowley, you have already read the Satanic Bible. LaVey just about repeats Crowley word for word.

I read it along time ago and was actually a Satanist for a couple of years. I've since left the path and have given away my copy of the Satanic Bible. While there are some points in the book that I agree with, there are a few that I disagree with and in the end I just decided the path wasn't for me. But if you get it and read it and discover the path is for you, then go for it.

Atheism is touched on a bit yes but not harped on too much. Hedonism is also touched on, but more like--and this will sound weird--moderate hedonism. LaVey stresses "indulgence, NOT compulsion" and using reason. He draws very much on Ayn Rand's writings of Objectivism.

It is an interesting read though and it is considered a classic and the cornerstone of Satanic thought, both modern and "traditional". Read it first, read it last, it doesn't matter, though you might find LaVey an easier read than Crowley. It's up to you.

I read it as a teenager and thought it was interesting. You may find that it isn't what you would expect , that is, if you're seeking self stylist forms of satanism. I think all books of religion are interesting. You can dabble in some philosophy as well to broaden your horizons such as Existentialism, Hedonism and Utilitarianism.

The satanic bible is a very good book. My personal favorite section is the book of Lucifer. My second would be the book of Satan, followed by the book of Baal, and last but not least by the book of Leviathan.

LeVey really knew what he was talking about!

"I am my own god"

Gary, if he wanted to decieve himself, he'd become christian

Yeah, I read it.
It's just warmed over hedonism, with a flashy cover for shock value. Shock sells.

the satanic bible is okay, but the last chapter on "Artificial humanoids"--Anton had a thing for inflate-a-mates--renders the whole book kind of sad and disturbing--especially if you read his daughter's book,"The Compleat Witch"

What's wrong with the REAL Bible written by God Almighty?

Don't you want truth....or are you just looking for something to deceive yourself?

"...But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." (II Tim. 3:12)
