my boyfriend tells me i'm fat, i'm ugly, i'm stupid, etc. (not very nice things). When i get offended he tells me he's only joking and that i'm beautiful and smart. I know he loves me but it still hurts and sometimes i wonder if he's only going out with me for the physical stuff. Any advice?

Kidding or not, you don't need to hear things like that all the time. Eventually it will start to take a toll on your self esteem. He might just have a weird sense of humor, which you should start to think if you really want to be with someone like that. I don't know how long you have been with him, but you don't sound like he makes you feel happy. Your boyfriend should make you feel like your attractive, sexy, and on top of the world, not like you want to crawl under a rug and hide. Talk with him and let him know how it makes you feel and that you don't care for his sense of humor. If that doesn't help, you should really think about your relationship. Is it worth your self Esteem? Should you sacrifice your feelings and selfworth? good luck.

You know he loves you? That's interesting, because from your description I see no signs of that at all. He is verbally abusive and it's only a matter of time before the physical abuse will start. Get out now, while you still can.

to be honest i personally wouldn't do such a thing at all?
but if i did it would be because i was scared?
maybe you are beautiful and smart and hes just scared that your going to find someone else?
so by saying these things he might think your gonna feel that way and not look elsewhere?
maybe you should reassure him :)

Of course he's only going with you for the physical stuff. If he truely cared for you, he wouldn't be calling you names and belittling you.
Get rid of him and find someone who really cares about you.

Any guy who treats you like that isn't even a friend, so you shouldn't have him as a boyfriend.
