Well, this is just something I never really "got", the idea of heaven has always seemed kind of appauling to me,so I'm curious exactly what is positive about it?

Strictly biblicly speaking, heaven is a kingdom in which there is no death, sickness, or tears, now the first two are perfectly fine, but tears denote pain, both physical and emotional. So heaven is an existance without pain, past the problems of that, a lack of emotional pain also implies a lack of conflict, which can come about in two ways:

1. People are "purified" and no longer tempted toward sin when they enter heaven. This is bibically hinted at, but ultimately, as evils and sin come from free will, it is the equivelant of a moral lobotomy.

2. Such a similar group of people is chosen that no conceivable problems could ever rise between them. Leaving pleanty of moral helpful people suffering eternally while you sit in constant bliss, a fairly disgusting concept.

It seems to me hell would be infinitely more appealing, as constant pain is by definition ever-changing, and ever dynamic. Change adds flavor to life, and challenge and satisfaction at completing a challenge (even if that challenge happens to be teaching yourself to become a masochist), is among the most satisfying things in life.

I mean I could personally deal with a nice long stay in pergatory, or could digg limbo, but I never have wanted to go to heaven, a static world has no value to me, even if it's accompanied by some naive concept of eternal bliss (the only way such a naive concept could be achieved would be through a lobotomy of sorts regardless).

Heaven is defined in western religions as a place of plenty, a contrast to the deserts from where Jews & Christians started their faith. Eastern religions define it as an empty place, a contrast to the lush forests of Asia.

Basically heaven is somewhere different to here and based on the principle that "here" sucks. Heaven is appealing because it's an escape from your wretched life. It's a particularly useful concept to religions that oppress.

I agree that conventional descriptions of heaven sound like a lobotomy.

Nothing!

Heaven is whatever you want it to be, personally, I want to be tempted; I don't see anything wrong with it. What's so great about Heaven? You can't swear, no sex, no porn, no booze, no alcohol, no gambling, no nothing.

And Hell... I pretty much envisioned it as living in Las Vegas, a place founded on temptation and hot weather.

Religions that limit the access to Heaven... Why recruit? Wouldn't you spoil your chances of getting in? If you want it so bad, shut your mouth and convince others that your religion is bad.

Listen, I am not a after life believer, I think that when you die, it's just that. You die, almost like sleeping... Forever. The way I see it, telling people there's no god, is like telling a 4 year old there is no Santa... Think about it. I hope I have enlightened you. Good luck!

If you were a true believer going to heaven, you'd know why. Your observations aren't accurate.

God exists. He is holy, and He created the universe and everything in it. He created man, which, after the Fall (when Adam & Eve disobeyed & brought sin into the world), is now a sinful race. Sin is disobedience to God and the punishment for it is death and eternal torment in hell. There is nothing we can do to save ourselves. But God sent His son, Jesus, who was perfect and sinless, to die for us and take the punishment reserved for us. And Jesus rose again after dying, ascending into heaven where He reigns today! So if we repent of our sins and believe that He rose from the dead, we will be saved...and we can't lose our salvation afterwards.

This is a textbook version of the gospel, but this is news that your very soul depends on. Souls are eternal and even if our moral bodies die & decay, our souls don't. They've gotta go somewhere, and you can either try to save your life now and die forever later, or die to yourself now, give it to Christ, and live forever in heaven with Him. I hope you choose wisely.

God bless!

Well...I cant believe you would want to live in constant torment, constant pain and suffering, the smell of burning flesh(does that sound appealing to you), hearing people screaming in pain all the time...burning in a lake of fire with no end in sight(dont that sound so nice) no water to drink, no food to eat..
I myself would much rather live forever in a place where there IS no pain, no suffering, no death, no CONFLICT, no sin, no strife,no tears...just constant singing and loving and praising the Lord forever and ever...
Did you know that the tree of life which is in Heaven, bares 12 different kinds of fruit every month...I think that would be cool to see in itself..

to each his own...

The way they describe our Heaven, it should be quite boring and for the eternity! There must be something wrong about such descriptions.

Muslims have a completely different vision of what is going on in Heaven. That's why they can be convinced to blow up themselves.

You were created to glorify God. When the angel Lucifer was thrown out there begun the fight between good and evil. When Lucifer then turned to Satan saw how much God loved us he decided to destroy us. He had the power so he lied and deceived us into allowing sin to enter the picture. We were now doomed to die and go to hell.

When God sent his son (a human form of himself) to die for us for our soul to go to the kingdom of heaven and to save us from this doomed destiny. This is all a result of sin.

We walked and talked with the being called God at one time. . . .we were his creation . . . . heaven isn't full of free will humans with no emotions . . . . it is full of souls who believed they wanted to be with their creator rather than in hell burning for eternity b/c of jealousy and so they are rejoicing the one and only creator.

God Bless

i can't imagine why, because even the bible says all of us there'll be kissing god's butt 24/7. The ideas of "heaven" and "hell" are a number of the most immoral ideas ever created.

I don't know if Heaven is actually the same "everyday" or not. Looking at this world, I would say God is extremely creative and my guess is Heaven will certainly show how creative he is.
