As has been said, a statue of the Buddha will not bring you "luck" - in fact I don't believe in luck anyway. But some general guidance is to put it somewhere high - at least as high so that it would be higher than your head if you were sitting or kneeling. It is also considered auspicious to have it on the east side of a room, (I've forgotten why). If you can also give a few "offerings" such as flowers, candles and incense, that would be nice, but just do what feels good for you and don't worry about any of it.

I think the Chinese Buddha is supposed to give luck wherever you place it. Some Buddhist traditions believe the Buddha statue should be treated as an actual Buddha, and needs to be placed and treated with respect.

Putting a statue of the Buddha in your house is not going to bring you any more luck than if you shoved one up your nose. The Buddha's about his teachings, his teachings are far more important than his body is, and his statues are worthless... now if you had a copy of his TEACHINGS you could LEARN something from them and then work towards gaining happiness. There's no such thing as "good luck".

In the most quiet & private space where you regularly pray & meditate. Place the Buddha statue in such a way that its in line with your wisdom eye(middle of your forehead) when you kneel or sit in front of Him. Also have smaller statues or paintings if you wish at vantage points of your choosing around the house e.g as you enter your house He should be the first thing you or visitors see etc.

there really isn't the BEST PLACE to a buddha for good luck, it's just how much kindness you give to the rest of the world. but you can put it next to some nice looking plants or something... something that looks peaceful so it matches with the buddha, and just create something nice-looking. the garbage isn't the best place, that i can tell you for sure.
you know, to get luck, just be kind and peaceful in general. buddha doesn't care if you worship him or not, it's if you do good or not. "One act of pure love in saving life is greater than spending the whole of one's time in religious offerings to the gods" this is one of buddha's quotes, and i think it's true! don't worry, good luck will come to you if you do kindness. :-)
