If you choose the lobster I would go with the soup and the creme brule.

I'm torn here for a fancy dinner. Definitely the lobster and creme brulee. However, as much as I'd like the soup, it might be too heavy for the lobster (and another hot dish), so I'd go with a lighter green salad because it's cool, yet that might not be as filling as the soup. Can you serve both a soup and salad for balance?

Lobster seems fancier than chicken, so I would do lobster. For dessert, I would make a chocolate cake, but design it really elegantly with some icing. Soup and salad should be available, also with some nice garlic bread on the side. Anyway you do it, just make sure that the food tastes great and the people are having a good time. =)

Steamed lobster for a main course with drawn butter. Sides: roasted asparagus with hollandanse sauce, risotto, and petite dinnner rolls. Appetizer- a salad with a light vinagarette dressing. Dessert- a Creme Brule...have a fun dinner

Hrmm, chicken is cheaper, depending on how you prepare it. There are soem great recipes on epicurious.com you could try that are pretty easy too. Look for soemthing that takes boneless breasts. (Picatta and marsala are both pretty straight forward. They were popular in the 70's too, which makes then retro-chic today. The prep is similar.)
I've never been to hip on lobster, as it's expensive and it must be fresh for the best flavor and texture. Seomtimes it just comes off as being a little showy? Just my opinion.
Creme Brule is another classic and it's great. It's not difficult to make, and you can do it ahead of time. Chocolate cake is good if you make it from scratch.

Chicken, because someone in your party might be allergic to shellfish, and it doesn't sound as though you have a back-up side dish (especially since some people just don't care for shellfish, even if they aren't allergic to it).
Creme brule(e) if you can make it well (pie filling with burnt sugar on top isn't creme brulee), cake if you can't.
Again, salad if you can make a salad that isn't just some wilted lettuce and limp carrots doused in vinegar, soup if you can't.
