While playing around on yahoo answers, I found out honey never spoils

It doesn't spoil but depending upon temperature changes..the highs and lows where you store it, then it can crystalize and harden too.

It is probably a legislative requirement. I found an expiry date on salt the other day! In Australia you can get honeys labeled with the type of tree flowering where the hives were placed. Red Gum is good, so is Yellow Box but the flowering weed called Salvation Jane or Paterson's Curse produces a peculiar tasting honey. The big producers are reliable though as their equipment and product is inspected fairly regularly.

Might as well just store sugar in there in an airtight container. Honey will crystallize and it then it can taste "funny".

yes that is a good staple for your kit but after so long of a time, it will turn to sugar and won't be any good. So be careful.

It can crystalize and has to be reheated to melt the crystals.


It doesn't have much nutritional value.

it can be, but honey can cause botulism in babies, so be careful.
