Someone tod me it's only worth it if you have a 1080p TV. Mine is 52inch 720p.

The short answer is no. As to why, well, that's a little more drawn out but I'll give it a go. These are in no particular order of relevance mind you, just the facts laid out in an orderly fashion.

1-The great format war. Wow, it's VHS vs Beta all over again, even the contestants remain the same! In this corner we have Sony and it's exclusive 'Blu Ray' technology, an electronics company of great renown but who's fatal flaw is that at times it falls prey to it's own hubris. And in the other corner we have, well, the rest of the electronics world and it's contender, the HD-DVD, poised to put a serious smack down on it's opponent the Blu Ray. Too bad those PS3's were such a let down, Sony's stock prices certainly reflect the stumble and may spell disaster. The safe bet though is to take a wait and see attitude and let the dogs finish the fight over this particular bone.

2-Price, not of the players mind you, I'm talking about the $10+ dollar surcharge over the already high cost of a 'Regular' DVD. Oh, and let's not forget that it's not found on many shelves in the rental joints either, the cost just too prohibitive and let's face it, the demand simply isn't there. Wanna watch a flick in full HD glory? Better pony up the ducats for a copy of your own.

3-Price again? A recurring theme but we'd be remiss not to discuss the price of your average HD palyer. OK, I've seen the XBox add on for as low as $179.99 and if you REALLY need a palyer it's a decent deal. For my money I'd get an upconverting player for under $100 and enjoy ANY DVD I choose to view in full 1080i glory, a very nice mating with your 720p native resoulution. And the picture? I dare you to see the difference between it and a true HD DVD and player, go ahead, I double dare you!

You only get three strikes in baseball and so shall it be here as well. I believe you know where I stand on this issue but now it's up to YOU to make a decision of your own. You're to be commended for doing a bit of research and asking questions rather than slapping down the green on the latest bling. Hope the info helps and have a very Happy New Year.

a million.uncertain, i think of that's a rumor. Blu-Ray is the greater dominant of the two. you will locate many greater blu-rays than HDDVDs. 2.Doubt it, Blu-Ray is subsidized up by utilising Sony. 3.I say get somewhat extra funds, and purchase a miles less costly blu-ray participant. yet, in case you think of HDDVDs are on your liking, purchase it.
