Bound's hubby here:

No. The .22 could kill a hog if you are really lucky, but you have to keep in mind when they are wounded they are mad and they bite back. The smallest cartridge I would consider using against a feral hog is a .357 Magnum and depending on the size of the hog, that might be too small.

Have a nice day!

NO! I live in Florida myself and there is a lot of hog hunting down here. A .22lr is differently not enough. They have very hard head and tough skin it's not easy to get though. All the hunter's that I know take a couple guns when they go out. Remember they tend to run in group's and their scared to come after you. I'd try like some one else has already said a .44 Good luck and have fun. Be safe!

That depends on how fast you are and how fast you can climb a tree.

It's true that a perfectly placed shot could possibly kill a hog instantly. More than likely that isn't going to happen. The likely scenario is you attempt a perfect shot...miss just a little...piss of the hog and have to run or climb for your life.

The short answer is NO! It will not be effective to hunt hogs with.

I hunt hogs near my land along the river and I carry a .450 Marlin, sometimes it doesn't seem like enough.

You don't need a permit to have a gun in Texas if you are hunting. To find out about concealed carry, search online for Texas Concealed Carry Reciprocity to see if they will recognize PA permits. I don't believe he's ever killed a hog with an air rifle. You have to use dogs, and get within a few feet and shoot them directly in the brain to do this. Your 3" barrel .38 is insufficient even to finish off the hog. A .22 is a joke. If you're pistol hunting, you need a .357 at least, better yet, a .42 or .44 mag.

You might want to see if it's even legal in your state. If it is, a .22 would probably kill a hog with a good shot, but the last thing any good sportsman wants to do is seriously injure an animal, lose it, and have it suffer and die a week later. A .44 Mag is a great round for hogs. I've even hunted them with a .300 Ultra Mag., which will drop hogs, polar bears, and everything in between, but I never got one with it. If I had a gun just for hogs, it would be a .44 Mag. rifle or handgun with at least a 6" barrel.

while a 22lr is great for tagret pratice you'll find most feral hogs weight starting in the upper 200lb+ range. Myself I spent quite a few years hunting hog or (wild boar) in Florida, you will find out quickly a 22lr will not do the trick. Try using a 44 mag rifle usually stops them cold. In our case we used pit bulls, the object was to take them live. We also caried a 45 acp pistol, just in case.

When I was a kid a buddy got treed by a boar that took 5 head shots from a 223 Rem. A 243 or a forty-something pistol is as small as you want to go. I personally use a 7x57, or a 41mag or 44spl for gun hunting and the same rig for hogs as deer when bow hunting.

It would take a very well placed shot. This is something that a moving target is not going to give you.I wouldn't trust a 22 for hog hunting at all.The least I would take hog hunting would be a 44 mag.

Hell No!! Feral hogs such as the ones found in the Piedmont Of N.C. that are crossed with Russian boars can grow to 500 lbs & are prone to really get po'd when wounded & very dangerous!

dont waste your time wounding hogs with a .22. You would have to shoot 15 or 20 before you got lucky enuff to kill one with a .22. Even if it was a .22 magnum. You need more lead, more power to do it effectively.
