I would love to know what type of cat I have! She is in the tiny picture. She is 18months old now and is getting quite big, but the vet says she is actually a small-boned cat and is a little overweight at 3.6Kg. Her hair is about 2-3 inches long all over except on her tail it is about 6 inches long! She has recently developed a distinctive ruff around her neck. Her face is beautiful with quite a square-set chin. I know she has some Maine Coon characteristics but since the vet says she is small I think she mustn't be. As far as i know she is a domestic medium/long-haired but I'm wondering if she has any Maine Coon in her?

I have opened my 360 profile so anyone can see the picture more clearly if they would like! Thanks in advance!
Also, she is definitely very particular about when she will be affectionate and when she won't. She doesn't like being picked up unless it is when she has just 'fetched' something and I am praising her! But she loves company and runs out to meet me when I come home. She waits outside my room for me in the mornings.

well, i have 3 maine coons and i could surely tell if i could see a bigger picture. most maine coons are big and have alot of furr. they have gorgeous tuffs out of the ear and a distinctive M marking in between her eyes on her forehead. there are many kinds of coons like brown tabby, solid black, and grey mackerals. they have fluffy tails too.
more than likely she was mixed with a maine coon. maine coons tend to not be so affectionate and they are independent. they three i have all like to be in the same room with me and they are curious as to what i do but they only seek love on their terms and they love playing in water. those are a few of the true coon traits in case ur seeing it with you cat. if you want to send me the pic, feel free to do so!

Real Maine coon cats grow slowly, so she could still get big. They also have tufted ears and a tiny little voice, and they often make a trilling sound when you talk to them. This is from http://www.fanciers.com/breed-faqs/maine-coon-faq.html#Char
"I think my cat is part Maine Coon. How do I tell?"
The Maine Coon is America's native longhair cat; it evolved naturally in response to the New England climate. Your cat's ancestors might be similar to the cats that founded the Maine Coon breed. However, it's impossible to tell from just looking at your cat if it is related to the Maine Coon or to any other breed. Because the Maine Coon is a natural breed and hasn't been bred to extremes, there are cats all over the world that resemble the Maine Coon. The only way to tell for sure if your cat is a Maine Coon is to look at the pedigree.

From the way u described her, i would say she definitely has some main Coon in her. There are however two other breeds that are very similar to the maine coon:
1. main coon: -long, heavy shaggy coat; long flowing tail; hair shorter on shoulders and longer on stomach.
2.Norwegian Forest: -like maine coon, except their eyes are always green
3. Siberian: -like maine coon, plush medium coat, has a neck ruff

She might, but then again, she could just be a medium/long-haired cat. People easily assume that a cat has Maine Coon in them, if they weigh over a certain amount and/or have the fur length similar.

The Maine Coon cats I even have met have been magnificent cats, comfortable, loving and intensely perfect too. like various long haired breeds you will might desire to groom your cat especially plenty every day to maintain it is coat in precise situation, additionally evaluate getting it a foodstuff that it designed to help cats manage hairballs as nicely as detect a hairball therapy that it likes. different than that study up on the breed and characteristic loads of relaxing attending to renowned your new cat! :)

i wouldn't worry about her being small and therefore can't be that type of cat...i have a russian blue, full blooded, and she's a little bigger than the russian blue usually is. each cat, regardless of breed, has it's own distinct characteristics. if most signs point to maine coon then that's probably what she is.

Hi Martina...although your kitty is a domestic medium/long (DMH/DLH) haired cat she may be mix of either Maine Coon or the Norwegian Forest cat, however both these breeds are large cats in general.
