Putting the parents in prison wouldn't benefit *anyone.* Nutrition education might help. Counseling for all the psychological/emotional reasons people over-eat might help.

I do agree with the fact that there are way to many overweight kids now. I'm not talking about a little bit chubby, I mean obese kids. For example, a 4 year old who weighs as much as a 12 year old and the like. There are too many kids being raised by TV's and video games. Too many parents relying on a daycare to make sure their kids are properly fed. Too many parents who hit the drive-thru at McDonalds 4-5 times a week, just because it's easier and faster than coming home and making a decent meal. I'm not meaning all parents of overweight kids are like this. Some kids, like ones who have severe asthma, are on steroid-type medication to control their asthma. Thus, in turn gain alot of weight because of this. But when you see a 3-4 y/o running around with a 20oz bottle of Mt.Dew in their hands, there's something wrong. The schools don't help alot either really, with the chip and soda machines right in the school. I don't think that parents need to be locked up for this, but I do think a little nutritional education is in order. I think that the healthier foods need a smaller price tag in the grocery stores. I have noticed that the junk food is more affordable than the healthier foods. What's with that? If they want people to eat healthier (of all economic backgounds) then they need to do some serious rearranging of prices. Something is seriously wrong when a 4-5 y/o is diagnosed with diseases that normally don't hit till the 40-50's.

Must be nice to be perfect. Do you have children? Yes it is a huge problem, but that is a little harsh. What would happened to the children, go into foster care?? They are not neglected children, some might be but not all. How about paying people enough so one parent can stay home and make homemade meals.Lets make produce affordable and cheep junk food expensive, so a salad would cost less then a candy bar?

You must remember: It isn't always the parents' faults. I was mildely overweight when I was younger, and about 1% of that was my parents' faults. I used my allowence to buy sweets and chips and cookis and cooldrinks.
And I think that some of the 1/4 children's scenario's are the same as mine. But yes, with some kids the parents messed them up so badly they have to be imprisoned, because they ruin a life. But motivation gets you through overweightness and I think that the 1/4 children should turn to their parents for help. To get a better future by losing weight, and not by losing their parents.

No... There are many influencers on the weight of children these days. The size of food portions has increased, children and parents are bombarded with images of unhealthy foods, food (and huge amount of choice) is more readily available, hydrogenated fats are pumped into foods, parents don't have the inclination/time/knowledge on how to cook from scratch.
I would also argue against these children being neglected, parents might be using food as rewards and as a way to show their love.

If there is nothing medically wrong with the children then I feel the parents should have to pay in some way but probably NOT prison.

Prison? I think that is rather harsh. You're basically saying that they are in the same class as parents who undernourish children. Is that what you'd rather have? Being overweight and being unhealthy are not necessarily directly proportional. Many are to blame though not just the parents. Our society as a whole is lazy.

Ummm, maaybe not prison but I do agree with you.
What kind of parents let their children suck down pop and mow down candy and junk?
What kind of parent lets their child lay in front of the Tv all day and play video games and no excersise?
Thats the problem..right there!

Don't you think that's a little harsh? They are not neglected; they just eat too much. Parents, however, should monitor what they eat, introduce healthy foods and see that they get exercise.
