There is one fate for all, and people’s are full of evil; while they have life their minds are foolish, and after that--to the grave. The living are conscious that death will come to them, but the dead are not conscious of anything, and have no more memory. Their love and their hate and their envy are now ended; and they have no longer a part forever in anything that is done under the sun. Eat, drink, and be merry. Wear fine clothes and cologne or perfume. Live happily with your sweetheart all the days of your life under the sun because that is your part in life and in your work that you do under the sun. With whatever comes to hand, do with all your power. Do it because there is no work, or thought, or knowledge, or wisdom in the grave to which you are going.

One of the most interesting questions (really a pretty significant observation) ever posited on this site. Truely provacative and insightful. Having said that, I think - if you're lucky - you get 80 trips or so around the sun. It's a roller coaster ride. Have fun.

My life hear on earth is short in perspective to my soul will live for ever. Rather that be in heaven or hell. What I do with my life here under the sun will determine wheather my eternity is bad or good. As far as rather we have a conscious in the grave or not we will see the answer to that when we die.

Life ends with death so also memory. But it is wrong to say that all people are full of evil. There is goodness, kindness, love and so on.. Life is meant for enjoying .We live only once and if we can make a difference in someone else' life, I feel ,it is worth living. I do not think people derive happiness in doing evil unless he is a psychopath.Animals also live ,enjoy, kill, play ,procreate and die. What remains after life is a mystery. This takes us to the question"whatz life and is there a meaning for life and why on earth do we exist. Most people go after riches, fame & power. At the end they realize that life was futile.

you qouted Ecclesiastes 9:5-10 but changed other words...

Fate is an unfair view of humans about God. Not a bible teaching. Not all peoples' hearts are evil, it is the world (system) that is evil.

And yes, the dead are simlpy in their grave waiting for a resurrection to life or destruction...

Sounds like a philosophy that would allow people to justify anything. A person who was smart enough could get away with anything without worrying about any consequences at all. War Lords and criminals could just commit suicide if they ever got caught and no punishment at all. Hmmmm. Sounds like a perfect philosophy for a murderer or other criminal.

Sounds like Kohelet's view to me, from the Bible.

I don't really think it's wise in itself. It's better to live a life of compassion and helping others than to just seek self-gratification.

Sounds like you read a little bit of the book of Solomon but didn't quite understand what he was trying to convey.
